We're sorry to hear that, Laura. Nobody should have to sacrifice their health because of the high costs of care.

Yours is a disheartening and all-too-common response that we hope won't be necessary for much longer.

Thanks Nate, I know it is a common story. I'm a nurse and have a decent job, but how can anyone cover $3000 up front to meet the deductible for 1 MRI...so we do without. I think that's what most people do. We hear stories all the time. Thanks for the poll. It's interesting

I'm using up personal savings but worry what will happen when they run out.

Some meds we have just had to quit taking. The 'gap' kills us

Hi Debi! Just to clarify, what do you mean by "don't do them?"

Don't do them. They're outrageous

I don't take anything. Mostly because of me reacting badly to them

At the moment what insurance does not pay I have to bite the bullet and pay. Right now my husband is very part time and we get Social Security and I do not believe we qualify for any assistance. It's still very expensive. We have other commitments that we need to spend money on so the medication expense is stressful. We may end up dipping into savings depending on how we work out our finances for retirement. Once in a while I do contemplate the thought of not staying on my MS medication against my neurologist's advice, but at the moment I'm staying with the program. My decision should I decide would be based on the risk as to whether my rather mild MS I would progress as I age. Some research or opinion tends to say MS does not get worse or progress in older ages maybe around 70 or later. I'm not quite there but will be sooner than I want to think about. I don't think anyone really knows the answer. So it would be a guess as to what risk I would be taking. Other than medications I haven't had too much in the way of healthcare expenses and so far it's manageable with Medicare. Again, what the future brings it's hard to say.

Thank you for sharing your story. We're sorry to hear the trouble you're going through in this mess of an insurance market, not to mention the additional stress of being unsure what the future holds for your treatment.
