Has anyone else tried Lumosity? I've been getting depressingly low scores on it.
Lumosity : Has anyone else tried Lumosity? I've been... - Headway
Lumosity
I wouldn't put too much faith in the results of any online test. With no-one there to explain the results to you it's not useful information.
By the way, I do know it's a well known test with "professionals" and that.
lol thanks Ben. I'll try not to get to worked up about it.
Yea I'm on the monthly plan. I mean my scores were LOW. I was shocked.
What did you get?
Never has my opinion changed so quickly
Just gave it a go, speed 200 memory 245 lucky with the memory that it was a spatial test I do very well on spatial reasoning (most times I'm off the edge of the bell curve) word test etc and I'd of done far far worse.
Being dyslexic I've been tested a lot over the years. It's handy to to understand how your brain works. But it is just a test nothing more or less
jeeze, those are low Roger-to be fair, I didn't come off much better. I think neuropsych testing is way more indicative then this lumosity nonsense.
They're not so bad, although I don't actually know what happened to you...
lol are you still trying to get it out of me Ben?
Dyslexia While a fractured skull and assorted Hematomas may not of improved my memory it doesn't apear to have made it worse, I've always had significant defect in working memory, to quote from the various staments on my dyslexia
The accident has made me tire much quicker which doesn't help and my balance doesn't much like buses/trains much partially if tired. But memory my memory for people's names is possibly sultally worse. But I'm used to a rubbish working memory that hasn't changed how I cope at work/home is as before. Normally use of tablet/smartphone.
Scores!
Speed: 904
Memory: 366
Attention: 679
Although there's no scale so I have no idea how well I'm doing. More people should do this!
no, I haven't Negeen, I have to confess I have not heard of it.
How are you doing, was your weekend OK? Shirley. x
I hadn't heard of lumosity so I checked it out... and wished I hadn't bothered. That is a tad depressing... mine were way below "jeeze that's low" ...than again what did I really expect duh! I know I am fabulous , that's what counts LOL
I'll look it up on a search engine iforget and report back if I can do it or not or see what the results are anyway. Shirley x
when I saw the game I remembered I had sen and tried it more than a couple of years ago, I did not too bad then, but tonight I was terrible on them all except the 1st game. It would be good to practise doing that every day, but I can't afford that much money, so I won't!
Hi Nageen, the mve is next week, thanks for asking. My Last night online for a couple of days will be next Monday night!
I can understand you being nervous, but a diagnosis hopefully will at least let you know what you are dealing with , and how to proceed. I think its possible to download the Headway booklets as PDF's, have you tried doing that because there are a lot answers to questions that occur to us, also suggestions and ideas as to what to do to help in certain situations. The booklets are for carers as well as the patients.
You may find the information useful to you.
Shirley x.
*Ahem* I would just like to announce that aside from my ridiculously low scores on virtually everything else-I, yes that's right *I* made 100% on the information processing game.
have you paid yet ? i joined after being bit naughty kept changeing email so cud have it free for 2 weeks funny scores got better 1s paid i found it ok but best 1 i found for our conditions was the focus the dots birds and stuff funny had 2 emails today asking me to re join i think is ok stuff juat pick out 1d feel comfy with then use others in between there was 1 how many boxs they appered then went you had 2 tick where they were boy low score yet same mind thing but differnt way wasnt bad mess with it and if paid yet get much use possible take care
I have paid for it, just so I can have access to all the games. I noticed that some of the games were the same stuff they asked me to do during my neuropsych eval it was interesting.
after brain op with sah / then stroke i had 2 leave nuro hospital as i live on border of wales o wasnt allowed on nhs 2 stay in england for rest treatment ive never had a neuro physc test infact nothingits not easy 2 start the perefieral vision 1 i liked a lot with the targets and scenes , gueess looking at things somehow was better than box flick boy i messed up on that 1 i think may have go again they are for brain i came on site doing look up on my illness let me no how you get on v x
I also took out a subscription and initially got very low scores, Then within a few weeks the scores started going up and up. It started to give me a nice warm feeling that may be I was improving.
Then I started to notice that on days when I wasn't very good my score was going up, same the next day. I think they are trying a bit of "kidology" to make you feel a bit better about yourself and the product.
I only do occasionally now
I first played on lumosity in 2009 at the age of 23 and remember feeling abjection at my very low scores despite that I was doing a university degree at the time and to myself and anyone else I surely should have had no problems playing these games. The idea of being fairly intelligent despite my brain injury and performing poorly on these games, which are similar to tests of IQ and the neuropsych teats that I'd also struggled on did not appeal to me, so I ended up signing up to play the games on a regular basis over several months. I must say, your scores on most games will improve the more you play them, so don't worry about having low scores to begin with. Lumosity wants people to keep playing so they have a variety of games in each area of cognition targeted so everyone can find a game that they're good at, improving your BPI (brain performance index) in the given area of cognition. I'm still playing lumosity because its fun and cognitively stimulatory, but whether or not it improves general brain function remains to be seen. My scores in all areas have improved dramatically and I'm now onw in the 90-100 percentile in all areas for my age group, what that means I don't know.
i just tried it the ongoing cost put me off
If you stick wt it, your scores will increase. My scores were also very low to start wt. Even though over time my scores have increased considerably, over the last month my scores have been going up and down, but also haven't increased. Still I know the games will get easier, and they'll increase eventually. Since your paying for it, play the games you don't do well at more. This will train your brain to eventually figure out how to do better at them.
For instance when I started last year my scores were also horrible, Memory 169, Attention 71, Flexibility 169, Problem Solving 220, and somehow my Speed was 625. I was playing too fast. I know my score history, because I keep them recorded in my computer, in a spreadsheet program. You can also just write the date, and your scores down on paper. Today my scores are Memory 1172, Attention 852, Flexibility 1366, and Problem Solving 916.
I realize that the game artificially inflates your scores, to get you too want to pay, but they are a good indicator of different skill sets. About paying, there is no need to pay. As long as you can commit to playing everyday, the games will continue to get harder, and your scores will increase. That is, as long as you commit to playing the games everyday. I missed 3 days, last year, and my scores reset. It will only let you play 3 out of the 5 games each day, but you'll most likely get different games tomorrow.
Of course when you play for free, you want have access to every game, but the games will still change up everyday. I think there are about 60 games you can play when you pay for luminosity, and I get about 20 or so games when I play it free everyday. I think that 20 free changing brain games, is completely worth my effort to play them everyday, and record my scores.
