At what age did you or the person you care for sustain a brain injury?
This needs to be compared against data of the users of this forum. Otherwise you are just recording the age range of users.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your comment. The polling system on here is very simple so just allows for one question. As opposed to the more detailed research we've conducted in the past as part of our campaigns, we just want to get a basic overview of our members on HealthUnlocked to help target and develop the service.
Best wishes,
Headway.
My son was 16 years old when he suffered a severe brain injury in 2002. He has been in a Persistent Vegetative State ever since.
Hi SandraEB,
Thank you for your post, and so sorry to hear about your son - our thoughts are with you all. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if there is anything we can do to support you.
Best wishes,
Headway.
As a survivor myself, i understand there are no words to console you and I appreciate even more how lucky I have been to have reached this point. Reading your post I realized that I need to put my energies to better use. You see I am house bound due to my daily epilepsy and need for someone to be with me whenever I do leave the house, so I spend my time researching. As I laid in a coma for 3 weeks 6 years ago my family where told that I might die or be like your son.
So, my questions to you are, what was the cause of the injury and has he responded at all to any form of music therapy or light or subtle vibration?
My area of research is sound due to my epilepsy being triggered by sound and I mean very subtle vibrations, which is why I feel this area is worth questioning, and as a mother myself I believe no stone should be left unturned.
I hope this post does not disturb you, I only wish to offer hope as I feel for you.
Thank you for your kind words. You have not disturbed me at all.
Well done to you for coming out of the coma and progressing so well! It is wonderful to read of good outcomes.
As I stated in my reply to Headway above I have formed a support group, primarily it is on Facebook. I also have a small website & twitter account. If you are interested in learning more about my story google Persistant Vegetative State Support Group & that should guide you to me.
My son had a severe bleed following treatment for an arterio-veinous malformation in his brain.
He doesn't appear to respond directly to stimulation, it is more like a reflex action. His hearing however is extremely acute & he opens his eyes and moves at the slightest sound.
It is wonderful that you are using your resources and experience to carry out research. It will help to make sense of things.
I do hope we can connect, many members of my group would love to have you as part of our community too.
Regards, SandraEB
I am so sorry to read about your injury.
Sending my very best wishes.
Hang on in there.
Regards, SandraEB
Thats sad, do you belong to a support group? It would give you a chance to meet others in a similar situation.
This poll is not really useful, the age ranges are inconsistent i.e. 0-14, 15-19, 30-39. A historgram using small age range categories would be better. It's easy to misinterpret this pie chart and assume that most people sustained an injury between 30 and 50 years old (30-39 and 40-49 are both 22%), whereas actually the same age interval 15-24 years old is 25%, but that's not what the casual observer would see looking at this chart.
Hi AnthonyM,
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately the HealthUnlocked polling system only gives us 8 options and the pie chart to display the results of this type of poll, so we can't go into any more depth on here. Because of this it isn't really intended as a formal study, but it does provide a really easy way to find out about the people using our community which is a big help.
Thanks again for this,
Best wishes,
Headway.
This is interesting 14 in my category 15-19
I was 17 years old.
Does the age thing really make a difference ? Just interested to know how that age would relate to the type of injury
