Have you tested the rest of your clos... - Gluten Free Guerr...
Have you tested the rest of your close family (blood relatives) after your/ your child's Coeliac diagnosis?

Managed to get my close immediate family tested. Discovered my 'always ill' sister was actually a coeliac too despite us having different symptoms. However, Aunts and Uncles and cousins with symptoms refuse to get tested - it seems ignorance is bliss for them as they muddle on feeling ill.
No close members...all in foreign parts.
Have reason to beleive mine is from my beloved Nanna....
Brother is wheat free and has been tested for coeliac but come back negative. Sister worried that she may be coeliac, as they say it runs in families, but also negative. Daughter has had problems with stomach and has been tested but also came back negative, doc says she has ibs. I seem to be the first in our family as no previous history anywhere in family.
Our GP said that my grandchildren should be checked-but not to make a production out of it!! If ever they were having blood tests, or when in hospital, we should explain, & ask for tests. So when one broke her arm last year & had surgery, I did this. All three of the doctors/nurses I spoke to looked at me as if I was mad, & refused-one even had the temerity to laugh at me!!
Have told my children about the symptoms of coeliac disease and advised them to keep an eye on their circumstances. I developed it about 48 so they are aware of this.
It is all I can do
Both my grown up children have tested positive for the blood test, but negative after biopsy. Both were told there was some damage but inconclusive re coeliac. They both avoid gluten as it makes them ill rather than carrying on eating it and causing more damage.
Of 4 sisters 1 has been tested but came back negative, the others don't consider it necessary as they don't have symptoms.
I'm the first in our family that we know of.
I have adult son and daughter. My daughter was tested when she was anaemic. She doesn't have coeliac . My son has not been tested but he hasn't had any symptoms. My little grandson is just 21 months and hasn't shown any signs
so hopefully he will be ok ! I have a sister ,she has had a lot of bowel problems but when tested does not have coeliac.
I am sure my mum has CD, even more so after her recent diagnosis with pernicious anaemia. I suggested she get tested a few years ago when she had occasional abdomnal symptoms but she put her head in the sand. After being caught out urgently needing a toilet sereal times in recent weeks one of which was while in the car park of an attraction she was visiting with my sister and her youngest son, she has agreed to raise the issue with her GP.
Some were willingly tested and thankfully clear, others refused even though all my other health issues stem from that side of the family.
I ticked 'other' because no one else in my family has any symptoms, except my mum, and she was negative. I am aware of what to look for though, so I'd suggest testing to anyone I met who showed signs.
