Since Coeliac/DH diagnosis are you or your child:
Both me and my daughter have ceoliac
Not had much help from doctors since being a ceoliac for 10 years!
I am so grateful for this site, I have been a coeliac for fifteen years, and recently lactose intolerant, and now possibly low sugar resistance....I am appalled at how ignorant my Dr is of how coeliacs is changing in people and the fact he is not up too speed on issues facing people with this disease.....this is our lives for gods sake...dont bill yourself as an expert if your not prepared to do the ground work...
I know how you feel...its a really great forum isnt it? I am also totally dairy intolerant too and allergic to fish. I agree with your notes about GPs too. My daughter was diagnosed as a baby (and I was much later) and although things have changed a lot and GF food is much better now but I am sorry to say that the constant ignorance about this condition from the various quarters of the medical professions, other than the few dedicated Consultants in this area, it seems the rest use an invisible cloak of 'je ne sais quoi' or 'laissez faire'!
I have had no checks since diagnosed early 90's
Same here but I have noted that the GPs seem to be deaf when coeliac is mentioned.
I think they are scred I might ask for a GF prescription and increase their prescription costs. One thing I do is that if I didnt stick to my diet I would be needing a significaant amount of expensive help from my GPs practice.
I have had no follow up checks since being diagnosed.
Bloods checked yearly at coeliac clinic, never given results.
Interesting. Why not take some grassroots activism in hand and contact your GP/ Drs this week and ask about when your coeliac check up is? All coeliacs should have yearly check-ups with their Dr or GP to test for B12, Vitamin D, Iron levels, cholesterol, and TFT (thyroid).
See here tests after diagnosis: nhs.uk/Conditions/Coeliac-d...
interesting Fiona thankyou....no mention about annual follow up checks i see in the article.
I have no follow up or checks since being diagnosed in 1989 so I am really finding this group helpful
Definitely more pushy because my GP misdiagnosed my Addisons disease and did not diagnose my Coeliac disease either. Dont trust him anymore so I go to him prepared and determined to get what I want. Cant ever trust him again, too much was missed and/or ignored in my case even though the symptoms were staring him in the face. I'll never forgive him for that.
I've always been assertive concerning my own and my family's health..and anything else LOL
