What has helped me the most is acceptance of my illness and realising to lead a normal life I must accept and comply with my diet also the fact that we can access better information than I could 17 years ago

My diet has gradually shifted away from store bought, processed and frozen foods toward home cooked meals made from organic, traditionally raised foods that include the basics: meat. poultry, fish, seafood, vegetables, and local fruit in season. I drink a lot of water too, instead of soda, fruit juice, coffee, tea or milk.

I must admit that i am slowly beginning cook more homemade, mainly because i object to paying the supermarket prices, but like yourself it is the healtier way i feel, too.

Its very hard for me to comment as the the gf diet has not worked for me, as i have type 1 refractory coeliac disease but i do tend to eat fresh fruit, veg, red meat, i do alot of home cooked meals as its easier.

I had difficulty to but have had to go grain free and not just gluten free for the symptoms to disappear - that means no corn, soya, rice, buckwheat, millet. Tapioca, quinoa, potato and nuts are allowed though.

Good luck

Hi Dona - would you like to write a brief blog post about how you were diagnosed with refractory disease & at what age? I'm sure it would help other members. You can search the tag directory to view past discussions & questions on the topic if you'd like some extra inspiration.

Thanks.

i have had more imformation from this site than i have from the specialist.and am finding out more all the time i was handed alist of dos and donts.and that was it the rest i have picked up from this site.

Cook most food from fresh. rely on baked beans for change. Mainly have loaf bread non codex, and odd crackers with cheese. Helpful hearing from others on this site.

I agree that coming to terms with having Coeliac's is the hardest part once you have accepted this it makes sense to follow the diet. I find it very helpful that resuarants are now putting on the menues what items are gluten free.

My vote goes to 'other', the unlisted 'other' improvement being communication through Health Unlocked GFG which gives us a voice, allowing us to express our thoughts, fears, findings and feelings.

Priceless.

I not only have CD but am intolerant of dairy and fish...I find cooking fine but snacking difficult as i get bored of the same choices! My health however is so much more important and have just joined this group!! thanks for having me x
