Hi, so today I’ve spent most of my day crying. I just don’t know what to do any more. Since my son started nursery 8 years ago, then through primary school and now into secondary school, we have had nothing but problems with his behaviour. Endless meetings, CAF meetings, educational psychologists, and four visits to CAMHS to be told there’s nothing wrong. My son, gets angry easily, he’s irritated easily he’s constantly silly and makes silly noises, he can’t sit still for a long period of time and is very negative about him self, he can also be the most loving caring gentle boy, sometimes it feels like he has two personalities. My husband and I have tried so so many things to improve his behaviour in school but to no avail. Today I’ve had a call from a teacher to tell me that if he misbehaves once more this week in school he will be excluded. When my son was born he was not breathing and had to be worked on, I believe in my heart that this has had some kind of affect on him but I’m not trained to figure this stuff out and find my self so confused and frustrated that he’s so different to my other three children. I guess I’m trying to find some answers and trying to find some way of helping him. I just don’t know what to do anymore. Please can anybody help?
Stuck! Don’t know what to do!: Hi, so today I... - FASD Support
Stuck! Don’t know what to do!
Does he have a diagnosis?
No he doesn’t, CAMHS told us there was nothing wrong and the educational psychologist told us it was down to the way he was being treated in his primary school. We moved him to a different primary school but nothing changed, now it’s continued into secondary school.
Are you in the UK? There is an FASD Clinic in Surrey - I am not sure how you get an appointment there. Are you his birth mum or if not do you know if birth mum drank? Everyone told me there was nothing wrong with mine too - he was diagnosed at 15. There is a Facebook group FASD UK - if you join that they may be able to point you in the right direction.
Yes in the UK. I’m his birth mum yes and no I don’t drink, smoke, take drugs or similar. I’m not on Facebook. Do you mind me asking how you got a diagnosis? I’m desperate to help him x
My so has fast he's 26 and I'm supported living now. When he was about 6 to 14 he was very silly and running around. Because they have adhd when they are young. Now my son is older he hasentail health problems. Anxieties. Depression. Health anxieties. He thinks he has cancer because
He smokes. He's on anti depressant tablets meds now and he does seem a lot better.but he will always have his problems. He has learning difficulties too.your best bet would be to try and get him on some meds.for hus add. And he might benefit from pys otherapist. They are very hard work my love. I know how you feel he was on and otut of hospital with mental health problems.I terreble what I've done to him .but
He loves me and I love him. He can't help his behaviours and his anxieties. But it use to get me down do much.also u need to keep everything positive. Keep answers simple like yes or no. Theyforget very quickly too.juke is all it nothing. He has no control I over anything. Like his cigarettes he would smoke 50 if he was allowed to. In one go.I wish you luck and try and remember he can't help his ; Behaviours it's because they have brain damage. Xx
