It is really with out going into great details that I felt unsupported . As a volunteer I was bullied .Volunteers are too vulnerable and I felt very used .

Dyslexia is so misunderstood .

Dear mena:

There can be bullies anywhere, just as there can be abusers and molesters anywhere. Go to another facility or agency and try again.

The beauty of volunteer work is that you can get to do things that you would not be able to get a job doing, things you really love, enjoy, and are good at, things they could not afford to pay someone to do.

Perhaps you should volunteer to do something that does not use those skills in which you are the weakest or slowet. I, too, had an English degree and could not stand teaching or sectetarial work. Instead I had hours of delight and found pleasant companionship volunteering as a gardener at a local public garden.

Choose a place where the workers and volunteers are friendly and happy, where they are doing something because they love it, and not just to be with snobbish socialites and cliques of school chums!

Please do try again! Cheers! digits

Dear mena:

Another thought. Don't always tell people about your education, especially when you are applying for work that is not professional, academic, or white collar. Emphasize your other interests, abilities, and hobbies.

You may find trades, crafts, labor, and outdoor or physical work much more suitable to your true self. I did.

One of the happiest people I know had two degrees in physics and chemistry, and he was very unhappy in the ivy league academic world. He became a delivery driver for a local brewery. Now he has friends everywhere he goes, and he has built himself some beautiful muscles on company time!

Thank you.

I think I needed to be reminded bullies are every where.

In hindsight the problem was the management at local and area level were a clique ,not interested in any new ideas ,comfortable as they were, too frighten to move on or try out anything new .

At the moment I am having health problems , but it helps knowing I am not alone .

I hope to move on and what ever happens it is best to remember the good and not dwell on the past.

Mena.

Sounds like the problem with with them and not you.

Their loss.

Maybe they actually felt threatened by you. Not trying to defend them, but for years I thought I was stupid due to being at a disadvantage learning wise.

I later realized that I wasn't. But it was a tough road but don't quit.

I'd apply to Virgin Records phones or airline that Peter Branson owns. He is dyslexic as well. Look where he went.

Thank you I have had a lot of time to think about all that happen, I think you Are so right I did threaten them. Neither of the two that were directly involved had any insight into to the students complex needs .I was even told to stop helping one student because she would never get anywhere !It is good to remember that dyslexic more than make it in a complex world. My own son, was employed to help a very successful architect with his written problems.

Thank you .
