Hi how do I no if I have dyslexia do I have to go to the doctors .as I only found out that I could have it cos of an on line test
It's hard to advise you because I'm not sure whether you're over 18?
That depends on where you live. If you are still in school talk to a counselor and see if they offer free or low cost tests. Also do you need an official diagnosis? I only figured out I was dyslexic. I have never been officially diagnosed but I figure at my age why bother. It's not worth shelling out the bucks. If you have decided you are dyslexic do research (try the internet) and see if anything others suggest helps you. Be wary of anyone promising you a cure for a price. No two dyslexics are the same and what works for one will not work for another. So even if their "cure" does work and is legit, it may not work for you.
Also you might go to YouTube. Dyslexic Advantage has posted inspirational videos from famous dyslexics. Other people both famous and not famous have posted videos with useful information. And the best part is you don't have to read, just listen.
your Doctor would now how to test you unless he/she have been train, the best way is to find a Dyslexic Group in your area and ask them to test you they are the best people unless you are willing to pay for the testing.
Anyone can be tested by an Educational Psychologist find your local support group and they will be able to help you, If you are in the school environment still speak to the school SENCO.
