I was sixty by the time I found out that I had dyslexia, after years of thinking I was thick.

I was recently studying at university aged 45 when the extent of my dyslexia/dyscalclia/dyspraxia was finally assessed.
The support was very good and the organisational skills that I was taught to use are coming in very useful again now that I have this brain tumour in the organisational area of head.
Who'd have thought??

By the way, I figured out I was dyslexic in my late 50s. Recently I found out my half-sister is also dyslexic. She found out as an adult when her son was diagnosed.
My husband was diagnosed at school by a very observant English teacher. He is now in his 50's and thanks to early help has not had any major setbacks.
I realised I was dyslexic 10 years ago when I met my husband who pointed out why I struggled so much. He has helped me greatly with coping strategies.

my english teacher spotted that i had dyslexia and even then the school did nothing. that was 12 years ago.
Age 26 but only last year have I been receiving specialist dyslexia tuition at my university in my mid 30s.

Hi I found out yesterday that I was dyslexic and dysgraphic. At the tender age of 49.
My form of dyslexia was diagnosed when I started doing a distance learning university course. My tutor had dyslexia in the family and immediately picked up on it. I was assessed by ed pysch and found to have spiky graph, great strengths in spelling, reading ability, but poor at maths, short term memory reading for meaning and mixing up sentences with meaning an word order at times, needing to recast sentences when checking my work. Felt sad I had got through all my education undiagnosed when I felt so frustrated And stupid at times. But glad I know no its not my fault and I can learn but its harder.

I was 8 when my Dyslexia was first recognised and support put in place. That's exactly the same as my Son. However, my wife was much older, 15 or 16 I think. Having said that looking at the poll results it seems it's a bit of luck at what age Dyslexia is identified. It would be interesting to do a geographical age split to see if your more likely to have it recognised at an earlier age in certain parts of the country or even LEA's.

I was written off as " thick" " careless" and "lazy" at school. Reports express frustration at my missing out words or reversing letters. It was not until my first year on my law degree( via Btec Nat Dip and HND) I watch Tugg on Home & Away struggle with "dysexia" and I self referred to student services.
I am in my 60s and still suffer with reading spelling sums and understanding information and other things, never had any tests, it’s been a very hard struggle and still continues to be a struggle on a daily basis…
