too many of us go undiaganosed, bad coping strategies lead to stress and further mental health problems toghether with problems at work. money spent earlier on would be a saving in the long run

I didn't get diagnosed till I was 50, Im 54 now. Back when I was at school, they didn't do tests and assessments for dyslexia. If they did, it was rare.I had problems all through my school life.It wasn't till I did an adult learning class and mentioned it to the tutor and she arranged for me to be tested. And guess what? my suspicions were spot on.You'd think that with all the different training teachers have these days, they'd be quicker to pick up on dyslexia along with other learning difficulties, then kids could get the help they need earlier.

Hi Bumblebee57. One of the major points in the suggestions that we have put forward is for dyslexia training to be part of initial teacher training. You almost can't believe it isn't already!

Hi Kate..like Bumblebee57, i was late diagnose. Just last nov 2011 when I started a He Diploma in Psychology and Community studies at my local University. I am a mature student. In my case I've got dyslexia and severe dyspraxia but is not going to stop me to do my undergraduate in Psychology. And that would be a great idea not just for teachers but also for Lectures.

I'm in the states. I was diagnosed back in the 1960s when all this was new. Now there are so many resources to help. I think that is wonderful.

Eventually I got my degree. Not the highest grade point but due to learning to deal with set backs as a child, I was able to deal with set back in college and in life.

Don't give up. It can be done.
