I would have to know more about how current funding works. It is easy to say that the government should throw money at every worthy cause. Especially since it’s writing so many big checks lately. In the race to decode the human genome, it was a small private company that made the breakthrough. As it did it met resistance from the publicly funded behemoth, the U.S. National Institutes for Health.

If you click on the link and start the process, it will tell you more about funding. At present, the NIH only funds 16 million for Parkinson's research. Given the amount of money that is allocated to other less urgent things, asking the NIH to increase funding to 25 million is extremely reasonable. And this is in no way invalidating or discouraging private companies or individuals from investing.

Dear cclemonade, I must confess that I as a TV-Jounalist get more and more problems with this company! I was always taking part of the survey, telling them about my daily problems living with Parkinson’s.....what’s disturbing me more and more; It’s always about money. There were days I got several mails begging for money. The worst: a Mail with the request to inherit my money to the company after my death...... hej, I‘m 59, still enjoying life, still working as a filmmaker! I wrote a mail telling them that I would prefer to read more about the studies abf the positive results rather than getting daily mails begging for money! Reaction: nothing! That gives my kind of a bad taste in my mouth (as we say in Switzerland...)....What I‘m doing for the fight against Parkinson’s: I produced a video for 3sat (where German, Austrian ans Swiss Television work together) Facebook, in which 55 year old Katrin explains, how the living with this desease is. And I wrote an article about this day with Katrin (who was

my sister in law for many years!)....

I share your feelings about the MJFF and I relate to your experience with them. But, I like that they are asking the US government for more funding for PD research. I want to fund the most promising trials directly which is why I have stopped funding MJFF. But again, they have established an easy means of asking the US government to fund research which is helpful.
