Commercials on TV for Parkinson's hallucinations and delusions

I'm in US. Don't know if you have seen that commercial on TV. Acadia Pharm is portraying itself as a very caring partner in Parkinson's. Hallucinations and delusions.

It is just amazing to me, the drug is not ready they're just trying to get money for their pharmaceutical business. And get us all prepped for buying it when it becomes ready.

It is currently on the market: goodrx.com/nuplazid

60 tablets for $2,600 of nuplazid, what a price.

In a different ad they did talk about not approved yet drug

I am amazed that they are suggesting 50 to 80 %. I have done a few searches online, and the suggested percentages vary wildly from 20% to 80%. I suspect that 20% might be closer to the truth. Mohammed Ali remained sharp almost right to the end of his life. Even when he could no longer talk, he gave interviews using a keyboard, and his mind was still ok. A lot of people without PD suffer from dementia as well. There are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Some of the samples seem quite small, and suspect in my opinion, in that it is as objective as essay writing. It has also become trendy to dismiss anyone who believes in a God as being delusional. Many older people believe in God, and believe in prayer. One of the studies I found online, had a number of patients die during the survey period. There would have to be a large study of people with PD from the time of diagnosis to death, and I am yet to be convinced that this has actually happened.

My brother, has PD, from agent orange in Vietnam. His hallucinations have taken over his life.

That's not an accurate portrayal of a disease with many symptoms and from what I have read eventually we will have treatments tailored for our specific PD type. The commercial was scary and misleading. Put me in a sour mood all day.

unfortunately for me that commercial was spot on reality for what my father lives with every single day. He is on his 11th year with Parkinson's he suffers with delusions hallucinations dystonia dyskinesia the paranoia agitation. And he is taking this medication . Everyday he experiences some form of delusion fear people are out to kill him hurt him. His father also had parkinson's disease but didn't suffer with the same issues. Neither of them had tremors my grandfather was still sharp up until 95 years old when he developed a tumor in his throat and passed away. Unfortunately my father at 85 has developed the early stages of parkinson's related dementia. I don't know if this medication helps but hes on so many others because at 85 years old and 11 years into diagnosis your body has to keep having all your meds upped he won't live to see a cure for this disease .

We are all fighting stereotypes & here Acadia Pharmaceuticals promotes additional fear & paranoia in patients and society. We struggle enough without someone prejudicing others against us -using their ignorance of the condition. My son is bipolar & most people only think of instability & outbursts thanks to negative only media coverage. This is not him. He can be quiet & withdrawn & swing to chatty and gregarious. He’s depressive not aggressive. No one has the same illness even when they have the same diagnosis.

It put me in a mood too....Like...I'd like to sue them for "offending" me and others with Parkinsons. I'm a nurse and still working.....Really not relishing my co-workers trying looking cock eyed at me because some big Pharma planted a seed. Lesser suits have been filed. Just saying.

Saw the advertisement with my family gathered for Thanksgiving in the room. Everyone turned to me and asked if I have hallucinations. I said I don't think so, but if I do get them I hope they are good hallucinations. Awkward moment.

We must be careful not to let our imaginations get the best of us. Those ads are creepy

The ad made me feel sad. Why is so much focused on the negative rather than what we can do? We need hope and encouragement not fear!

A lot of hallucinations that Parky's have are benign, some of the people also enjoy the benign hallucinations. Just because you have Parkinson's does not mean you are going to have hallucinations and delusions.

No TV here so I have not seen the ad. If there is anything that is untruthful about the ad we can get booted off via the FDA. fda.gov/Drugs/GuidanceCompl...

Yes, The second time I saw it, I was outraged (I hadn't processed it at first.

First, I don't see anywhere their claim that 50% of us get Hallucinations.

Secondly, I have NEVER believed ETHICAL PHARMACEUTICALS should be advertised on the Telly.

It's a VERY disturbing commercial that is not selling anything. MSNBC runs it in the mornings and I've been meaning to call them.

I forget what else, but I'm really pissed.

Regarding Moretoparkinsons.com TV commerciaI: I cannot see any value for this commercial. It does nothing to support the Parkinson's Community. It has such a negative impact. Think about the newly diagnosed and the impact this has on them. It causes nothing but fear and depression. I personally am offended by it. Can you imagine for those with Parkinson's who are still out there working and continuing to grow their careers. What do their bosses think when they see these commercials and what prejudice does it cause for their professional careers? It shows a poor reflection to those working hard to live a somewhat normal life. While some of these symptoms may be true, I would like to see where this data comes from. I think these commercials should be removed from television. Not sure quite how to do this but, where there is a will there is a way.

I agree, negative portrayal of Parkinson's people.

Be aware of MD and PhD psycobabblers, some of whom may "find" that PD folks taking Mucuna or other supplements are experiencing hallucinations, delusions.

This site has been posted by Park bear. I'm reposting it again, I have decided I was going to report the ad, maybe if few of us will do it they will take a look at it.

I find this ad very cruel. My wife was recently diagnosed and this commercial frightens her very much. If they are actually trying to help sufferers, then this creepy ad going the WRONG direction.

You are right, tell her not to worry about anything. I guess niacin, about a thousand mg a day, you have to work up to that amount, takes care of any hallucinations.
