As an outsider (from NZ) it did seem that he supported benefits for disabled with no cuts to welfare, isn't that a good thing? I'd assume all communities want to care for their less well off?

Grower, are we talking about the same person?

Oh I plead ignorance, I assume we're both talking about the UK pensions secretary but since I'm only going by media second hand. By all means fill me in

He wanted to cut disability allowances from 103 pounds a week to 73 pounds DD a week. He introduced bedroom tax so if you had two bedrooms usually one for equipment or one because the other partner couldn't sleep with the disabled person there was a tax to pay. Others applying for benefits were refused and others on benefits already were reassessed and then benefits stopped

Oh I was clearly getting the wrong end of the stick, he seemed to go out making the right noises but now I read more history and I see what you mean. Good for you guys then

I thought he was awful -- always whack, whack, whacking away at benefits. Seemed like he despised the working poor. But I don't know much about Stephen Crabb, his replacement.

There will be many celebrations today in London. His legacy to kick the disabled when they are down will follow him along the way

While I too was overjoyed to see the back of IDS, I hate to spoil it by reminding you that we still have Pritti Patel and Justin Tomlinson - both known for their unsympathetic views towards disability benefits.

just tell them to think what would be like to be disabled one day as it can happen to them via accidents or their body changes.
