It was posted a while ago that you had to take carpidopa with the mucuna bean for it to reach brain. Does anyone know anything about this?

I don't know anything about it. I only know that the carbidopa was added to the levidopa to counteract the nausea caused by the levidopa. Not to help absorption since levidopa is prescribed alone. I could be wrong.

In the case of Sinemet it's essential that carbidopa help the levodopa to cross the blood /brain barrier

I take a small amount of Sinemet and mucuna pruriens together. The carbidopa in the Sinemet helps the Ldopa in the mucuna pruriens cross the blood brain barrier. Having said that, I have taken mucuna pruriens by itself and found that it crosses the BBB because it clearly contains something that facilitates this, but I had to take a significantly larger dose of mucuna pruriens to do this.

I will tell you that I take half of a Sinemet 25/100 tablet together with the Mucuna Pruriens which I take either in powdered or capsule form depending whether I'm at home or away from home. As to the dose of mucuna pruriens I take, you must experiment to find the dose that is appropriate for you as we are all different. I would suggest though that you start with a 7.5ml dose of MP as a base and adjust either way, depending how you get on with it. Note: I said 7.5 ML which is NOT the same as grammes. The measuring spoons in your kitchen will help.

I take 4gms of Mucuna Pruriens powder morning & evening.Afternoon take Syndopa plus.It is quite effective

How and why did you start to take Muucuna Pruriens & has your Dr or consultant recommended it? I googled Amazon, and there was a very bad report on it - likewise some glowing reports. Thanks

i haven't started taking it yet. I've just read a lot about it. I've been taking coconut oil and I only want to try one new treatment at a time. I'll look on Amazon for the article. Thanks.

Carbidopa is the 2nd of 2 ingredients in Sinmet. e.g. in 125mg Sinemet contains 25mg Carbidopa and 100mg of Levodopa.

The Carbidopa is included to try to prevent the Levodopa being absorbed into body tissue other than the brain. If Carbidopa is not included then to get enough Levodoapa into the brain a very much larger dose of Levodopa is needed. Now because a side effect of Levodopa is to make some people feel rather bilious so including the Carbidopa means people are less likely to feel sick.

The name Sinemet is derived from sin meaning without and emet meaning emetic i.e. generates feelings of sickness. So Sinemet is "without sickness"

I was diagnosed a year ago.

My movement disorder specialist recommended Mucuna Puriens. All other general neurologists not specialist in Parkinsons that I saw recommended Sinemet.
