I have completed the LSVT, Speech gets faster as the day progresses. Do you know of any meds that help with speech?

The important thing about deep breathing is to breathe out for longer than breathing in. This will get the "parasympathetic nervous system" to calm the body. This is used when calming down after a Fight or Flight incident.

No meds that I've heard of to help the voice.

I had heard that the LSVT programme is very good though,

The speech gets faster with to much medicine, the program imporoves your Loudness, balance/gait and over all confidence. The program was wonderful, it works because the exercise produces the missing chemical in our brains thus making our brain helps it self with exercise and meds. I found my handwiritng was readable, that was the one big thing for me, I had a goal for addressing 5 christmas cards a day and I was able to write them!! I was so proud of the reaction when I sent them off!! God Bless!!

Yes it seems the little things seem so huge these days BUT, try even if you address 1 card a day for 30 days that is 30 cards! A that makes a home run, maybe a slow one but it is still an acomplishment!!

p.s have extra envelopes, you might need them and I use a ruller and the addresses almost looked like calligaphy!!

I did speech therapy with a local rehab hospital & the exercises were a wonderful benefit - not only for my voice, but also increased my facial movements removing some of that "Parkinson's Mask!"

How I wish there was something along that line in the New Haven area! My speech is getting softer and softer and I am so embarrassed to have to be asked continuously to speak louder!

I know - I turn TO the person I'm speaking with - some of the exercises were poohs & ohs & ahhhs exaggerated & held out for 2 to 3 seconds as loud as possible several times a day with exaggerated facial movements raising brows, stretching jaws etc .. Build up volume & time spent on exercises .. My face was almost frozen - I SMILE again!

Husband will soon be receiving collagen injections near vocal chords to "plump" them up. His neurologist said it would help with voice issue. Good luck!
