Do you experience any of the following?
REPLY SUBMITTED RELEVANT HEALTHUNLOCKED POST
I don't like to use the term Depression as it immediately has Doctors ofering to hand out yet another medication - Does anyone else have a hightend tendency to shed tears - I can cry at a line in a song or three words in a poem or sometimes for no apparent reason at all. My emotions seem to be set on a 'hair trigger' - I still manage to play guitar and sing with my wife but it can be a white knuckle ride with some of the songs we sing
. We (people in general) tend to use technical R one gets s when we recognized traits in if ourselves that are part of psychology vocabulary. Anxiety and depression are great examples . Often if u notice yourself moving toward depression , a change of activity or speak with someone Great if you have an upbeat friend or family member. ,I won't ramble on. This is meant to be supportive, saying this is something that I can handle and usually is short in duration.i would suggest a consult with a mental health professional . I'm not saying get into therapy just find some one who can help you to recognize thediffere
Hi Blondir
I have been telling people this for the past ten years! See my book 'Reverse Parkinson;s Disease', it tells you this and plenty more. The problem with Parkinson's is that the condition reduces our ability to work and earn a living, but it makes us users of expensive medicines and treatments, and it seems never-ending! I have been able to overcome most of my Pd problems and no longer need to take any Pd meds. Don't get too excited. If you are not prepared to exercise and take control of your stress levels then carry on taking meds and visiting your doctors. Life is tough!

Thanks John - where can I get a copy of your book from - as rthe old saying goes ' you can't get something for nothing' so if it means more effort and some changes I will give it a go - its the undermining of confidence which in my case at least , sems to go with PD - although I don't have trouble standing up and performing at our local Folk Club or presenting training - both things I enjoy and which I am slowly loosing
interesting comments from yourself which I find helpful and optimistic
Regards
Bill
Hi Bill
I don't want to use this site to advertise my book, but try amazon.com or reverseparkinsons.net. Depression becomes a self-fulfilling professy. If we are aware of it, which often we are not, we have to make every effort to become more positive, by doing something constructive. Listening to others can help, but doing is better than listening! Good old exercise is the best thing to do. Get rid of this attitude of, "I don't like exercise!", or "I am too old to exercise!", or "I have got a stiff leg!". They are all just that, EXCUSES! If you really believe, as I do, that exercise can help us, which it can, then you will find a way to exercise, and you will start on the road to recovery. Even bed-ridden people can exercise, you just have to be creative, use your imagination! On the lighter side, why would a bed-ridden person want to exercise? Maybe, that 'will to live' is stronger than we think! Good luck!

Hi Bill. I wish I could afford to print a million books and deliver them all to other patients, all over the world. As it is, I do it at the lowest price possible to cover the replacement and packing & delivery costs. You can either go onto my website - reverseparkinsons.net - or email me at johnpepper@telkomsa.net.
In my book you will read that I think the loss of confidence is the worst symptom of Pd. The biggest loss of confidence happens at the time of diagnosis, when the doctor told me, "There is no cure for Pd, it will get progressively worse until you get to the stage where you will become bedridden and unable to move ", or words to that effect. I have proved him totally wrong, but that did not stop me from completely losing my confidence, which caused me to lose my business and a lot of money. The big result of that was the reduction in stress levels in my life, which has helped me to reverse my Pd. So! Not everything happens for the worse!

Hi Polyanna007. Thanks for wanting to buy my book. I wish I could recover the whole cost of writing, publishing and maintaining my information website by putting my book in the public domain, free of charge, but it has become a full time job, responding to questions from patients and I cannot continue to cover these costs any other way than by continuing to sell the books. You can either go onto my website - reverseparkinsons.net - or email me at johnpepper@telkomsa.net.
Many thanks
John
Blondi:
Read your crying problem and so hope it is resolved now. I too cry at the drop of a hat and really hard.
Church has become hard also from tear problem.
Have you gotten any relief from it ?
Dr gave me lowest dose of antidepressant Zoloft but
Madero a wreck and had to stop it . Take care and keep on playing!
Polyanna007
Hi Polyanna007 - I'm better than I was - and no pills - did some sessions on 'well being' which helped - simple exercises breathing that sort of thing - I can still have problems with 'corpsing or cracking up' but if I keep playing through and through I can usually get past it well enough to perform outside the home - some songs I just don't try to sing - keep on going to church most people don't notice and those who do understand if you explain it to them
Keep on trying - don't give up
Hi Polyanna. I know you asked Blondl your question, but felt that I should also answer it. I cannot sing some songs anymore, and there seems no cure for it. I also tried antidepressants, But they have unavoidable side effects. I have come to the conclusion that we have to find ways of solving our Pd problems, without the use of medication. I have stopped all forms of medication, including blood pressure pills. I don't recommend others doing this unless they do it sensibly. I now live a fairly normal life, if you count having to consciously do most things, which took a long time to achieve. I will soon be turning 80, in 3 months time, and I got married again, three weeks ago to wonderful lady, whose late husband also had Pd. I had been married for 51 years to my late wife, who was a wonderful person. I have been very blessed.
John
Hi Blondir. Yes! I cry for many reasons, including sad lines in songs and even sad music. I am a pain with whom to watch movies. I embarrass everybody. I have entertained many people over the years but now I am unable to sing several songs, because I get a lump in my throat and cannot continue singing.
John
I experience none of these. Shouldn´t there be a box I could tick, saying NO ?
Mostly, all of these symptoms are preceded by frustration
Hi biggiemo. Frustration is my biggest motivation for doing what I do. I cannot fight frustration by giving in to what is happening to us all. It makes me fight to find ways of solving my problems. Every time i see another patient fall down or shuffle along, I can't but help myself from stopping whatever I am doing and showing that patient how to overcome his/her problem. I am a non-repentant busybody. I have never yet found any of these patients to have been unable to do what I have shown them. But have to admit that not all of them carry on doing what I have shown them, even though it works! Why? I don't know, but I plan to find out. I suspect it might be a lack of understanding what they have been shown. If you don't believe something, you won't continue doing it, even though it worked.

Dear Blondir
Thank you ever so much for your response. I Will do as you suggested next Sunday.
I think I will sit on back Row land that may help , at least the choir will not wonder
What I am crying about. The more someone comforts or approaches me the
Worse I get. I really do appreciate the attitude you have and Forge on Thru the Tears.
Will let you know how it works out . You are a great encourager, as well as many who have said that pills are not the answer.

Hi. I am not aware of being apathetic, but it is possible. We are all reluctant to do certain things, but is that apathy?
I definitely have suffered on and off with depression, but have avoided as much stress as possible, which reduces the occurrence of my periods of depression. When I am bogged down with insoluble problems, I do get very depressed.
My fluctuating moods are very difficult to live with, especially for my wife. my sudden mood swings cause people to give me a wide berth, and that is not acceptable to me. I try very hard to hold back my sudden anger, until I have given the situation some thought. By then my mood is more controllable.
Dear JohnPepper:
Thanks for the quick reply and was able to find it on Amazon.com
As for the price, I have spent more than the cost of book
