Swollen legs

I am 88 yoa and have been diagnosed with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. I have been suffering from swollen legs for some time and recently dark redish brown patches have appeared on my shins together with dry skin. One area on one of these has started to leak a clear liquid. Has anyone any experience of this?

Hi I am not a medical health professional, but I really think you need professional advice over this. You need to know why you have these issues with your legs and urgently need someone to look at this area where the skin is broken. Wounds can quickly turn very nasty and I would encourage chatting to your GP, cardiology team, 111 so you can get the leg looked at and treated before it turns nasty.

I have been seeing the nurse on a regular basis who has been putting dressings on my leg. The wound has dried up now and requires no more dressings but one has now appeared on my other leg. I was hoping to near from someone who has a similar problem.

I have been taking 80mg Furosemide in the morning and 40mg at lunchtime, my legs have now returned to normal although the brown areas remain. The dose of Furosemide is now reduced to 40mg in the morning and 40mg at lunchtime
