Just remembered I have myofascial pain, but after remembering I researched it an saw the symptoms, an it explains most of my issues. But none of my Physicians are treating it so what can I do? I'm on some moderate pain medications. What type of Dr. do I need to see to get on the right treatment plan that might help?

Main stream medicine doesn't understand this condition. It is not taught in medical school and most doctors don't have any deep knowledge about it. Very important to self treat everyday and keep a diary to identify what kind of factors trigger you. For example, lack of sleep, stress, certain foods can all make this condition worse. A Very good book is The trigger point therapy workbook by Claire Davies. Also, the more you can learn about the condition, the better position you will be in to ask the right questions and get the right help. Dry needling helps me maintain my range of motion though it does not help the pain. Meditation to manage stress is also very important. Eliminating as many toxins from your body is also very important. fmcmpd.org/

The above link is an excellent resource. Non-medical treatments that have been found to be effective are Hannah Somatics, Feldinkrais, dry needling, myofascial release therapy, stress management, lifestyle alteration. It is very important that you don't stretch or lift weights with active trigger points. The good news is that there is a lot we can do to help ourselves but it is a journey of diligence and dedication and flareups our natural part of the condition. There is a good support group on Facebook called my Myofascial PAIN syndrome and also an excellent group called Somatics: change what you can sense. Lots of great tips and exchange of experiences and information there. Lots of kindness and support too. My best advice is to get on board being your own advocate as quickly as possible and don't let the doctors dismiss you and say they don't know what is wrong.

Hi Peachesmlod, you gave me a lot to check on and read. I definitely will do what you've suggested. I'm in physical therapy now due to major surgery on my right shoulder. Second surgery on it in 3 months. Doing the exercises and stretching hurts like hell. When my therapist holds my arm to move it I have to remind him not to hold to tight cause it hurts for even my clothes to touch my skin on both my arms. When I'm home I walk around in my sports bra so nothing is touching that area. Thank you for the advice.
