I’m wondering what prompted you to ask the question?

From what I can gather FA - Folic Acid supplementation can help reduce the risk of first stroke for those at risk from high cholesterol. But it’s a bit more complicated than FA reduces cholesterol and I couldn’t find enough evidence to make me want to take supplements without medical direction after testing.

Do you have your folic acid levels tested? Are you low?

I found this quote quite helpful:-

Folic acid (FA) is one of the B complex vitamins. It is thought that FA deficiency promotes atherosclerosis formation in arterial endothelium. FA, acting through reducing homocysteine (Hcy) levels, may contribute to decreased cholesterol (Ch) synthesis.

You get high Homocysteine levels from eating too much red meat which is why a plant based diet is recommended. High Homocysteine levels in your blood is associated with low folic acid which seems to be an indicator for possible atherosclerosis - hardening of the arteries - which increases your risk of heart disease, clots and stroke.

SO - High Homocysteine levels in your blood is associated with low Folic Acid which can contribute toward heart disease by but no one seems to really understand how or why.

It’s always a lot more complicated than you think.

I tend to agree. I was talking to a medical librarian a few years ago who told me that something like 10,000 articles & studies per week - to keep the medical press in pennies.

Finding cause is almost impossible - correlation is much easier and it’s not jus US.
