Morning everyone. Just a quick question. If diagnosed with heart disease can you still consume avocados?

Hi I haven't been diagnosed with heart disease but I have had high cholesterol for a few years, now being treated by blood thinners and stains, but I have this year developed a vascular blockage in my left leg. My dad had heart problems so there is a history. I read Dr Esselstyn's book "How to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease". He does not recommend eating avocados as they are relatively high in oil compared with other vegetables, but he has been treating patients successfully for many years with a whole food plant-based diet with no added oil. I found his book very interesting. He follows and monitors his patients'progress for several years and shows by reports and photos in his book how much their chokesterol has gone down by amazing amounts and their arteries have healed themselves. I am trying the diet and have been on it for 8 weeks now. I haven't stopped taking the medicine prescribed by my doctor but I am expecting a big difference at my next cholesterol test and I have postponed having an angioplasty to put a stent in my leg. Best wishes.

I have read reports on avocado, the good and the bad! I eat one avocado a week, it can be expensive. I am enjoying one life.

Avocados work well for some and extremely badly for others. Your dna should tell you whether or not to use it.

Hi I've read all the responses. I know where you are all coming from. I love avocados but I try to only eat them occasionally now. I suppose time will tell whether I can reintroduce them on a more regular basis. Best wishes everyone.

You absolutely can. I have half an avocado daily. Among its most healthy nutrients is 'beta-sitosterol' which contributes to lowering LDL cholesterol as well as helping older men to shrink their prostate.

You can read more about avocados here:

I had bypass surgery in 2015 and have been off of all medications since October 2016. I just saw my cardiologist last week and he's very happy with my current condition.

I stopped eating avocados and went on at strict plant based diet - did nothing to lower my cholesterol. I have gone back to eating avocados they are not a man produced oil

Thankyou for that info. I do still eat avocados. Maybe a couple in a week. Have you found being on a plant based diet as helped your overall health?

to be honest I was only eating fish and no red meat anyway so I did not see a difference. I had always been very active. My health issue came about in my opinion was during a time of a lot of stress I handled by eating a lot of sugar and junk. I fixed that so I have felt good since. Like most I have read a lot of books and listened to a lot of lectures - and no one seems to agree on what is best to eat. I just finished a book called Put Your Heart In Your Mouthj by Dr Nataska Campbell-McBride you might find interesting. I also found a lecture by her on you tube. Hope this does not confuse you. Just find what works for you and makes you feel good

Thankyou will have a look at that. Many thanks. Lots of differing opinions....
