I gave up work to care full time for Pete in 2005. I’ve never regretted it although it was difficult at times. We’re doing alright I feel.
I feel it is too late for me to return to work
I have already retired.
RA AND DEMENTIA IS 24/7
Work part time so that i can balance caring for my son and working
I took early retirement and had planned taking up a part time job. However PSP came into our lives and I am in a 24/7 caring role.
Although I have now retired, I had no option but to work from home and chose what was a hobby and turned it into a job. I no longer enjoyed the hobby and worked longer hours albeit at home, fitting it into what I had to do at home in looking after my special needs son. My son is now in supported living and I have no regrets about giving up work to look after him. My regret is that now he is in supported living because of my age and health concerns because of change of Thyroid medication by present government. My son's health care is not at all well looked after in supported living. His general care is good though.
Gave up a Nursing Career to care full time for my husband
Now retired.
I have been a family carers for over 50 years.
1. It affected my education. Couldn't get a levels I needed and I ended up being 50 when I finally got my degree. Mother first cared for. Dad also some of the time.
2. Reduced to part-time work eldest son as child asthma
3. I had to cease work youngest autistic son for 15 years after work affected including career advancement
4. Career change to advocate
5. Health issues meant only able to work part-time.
Overall due to caring, earnings and pension opportunities and health completely damaged. Also due to situation I cannot even retire early like some of my peers in comparable jobs to my degree qualification. Had to even spend some time on means tested benefits very soul destroying.
Love my family hate the lack of recognition and compensation for carers for their potential losses.
I never knew could do both really ... I know carers need care too esp if its family filling role.
I have retired. I became a carer after retirement. We are both old.
Retired before becoming carer. Physically exhausting but would do whatever was needed.
I am retired but living with my mother every other week for a full 7 days has had a big impact on my life and the life of my sister who does the alternate weeks
