With the winter flu bug and other medical conditions that require treatment, it certainly a worry when the elderly are waiting in corridors for treatment, Nursing staff and doctors working 12 -14 hrs each day, this will affect both the NHS staff and patents care.....

Staff are over worked and mistakes will occur its a fact. Peoples lives are at risk.

The programme on television this week "Hospital" really hit home the dilemmas and stress of working for a buckling NHS, I feel for everyone involved.

In the month leading up to Christmas my mum had:-

3 home visits from GP.

1 emergency Dr

5 Ambulances

An "urgent" assessment in Older People's Rapid Assessment Unit

A normal GP appointment. (Interesting to note here we got in early as 2 other appointments didn't turn up.)

Between Christmas and New Year a home assessment from the Practice Nurse team.

Not for anything life threatening so I feel a bit of referred guilt from over the NHS

Adult Social care is planning to come for a further home assessment

I can only agree with the above. Its the "patients" causing some of the issue

When I was able I volunteered as a ward helper. It was important to get the physiotherapist a cuppa as she usually only managed time for a lunch of mars bar and coffee.

Agree with tinlizzy , tired people make mistakes. I fail to understand how some important jobs get 12 hour intensive shifts.

I have had recent experience of A & E at Western Sussex Trust Worthing Hospital. I received prompt excellent treatment & spent 4 days on the Emergency floor as there were no respiratory beds available. The care and attention on the ward was excellent when a bed was free I spent a further 6 days on respiratory ward The hospital was very busy. Staff are stretched as there are not enough but the do an amazing job
