FASTING : some people say dry fasting or water... - Tinnitus UK
FASTING
I know there are all sorts of weird and worthless "fixes" offered online for tinnitus (T), but this is the first time I've heard of fasting, especially water fasting.I should imagine that becoming incredibly hungry could serve as a mental distraction from the continuous, intrusive and strange noises we hear in our heads (those of us who have T). Additionally, confusion, headache and urinary infection that could result from deliberate dehydration might have the same distraction effect!
Personally, I think a good balanced diet, robust hydration and plenty of sleep coupled with some targeted meditation or sound therapy techniques might be wiser options.
When I was moving house I didn't eat all day and my tinnitus disappeared despite the high stress levels, but I suspect that was to do with distraction, and the fact that the tinnitus always gets worse after eating a meal, which is probably related to too much sugar or salt in the food (in my case - everyone is different). Will be monitoring my diet more carefully in the future but certainly not fasting. Finding out which foods suit you is the way to go, although this might be a lengthy and tedious process.
I am on my 4th day of water fasting and will stop tomorrow and I feel great . Tinnitus very low but still there. Will do a longer water fasting end of May and keep you posted. As regards dry fasting I have read The Phoenix Protocol. It sounds interesting but a bit drastic and possibly dangerous, who knows? I may give it a go one day. I have had T for 14 months. Looking after diet, doing meditation, regular exercise, enjoyable/relaxing activities like gardening, bee keeping, joining yoga/meditation group, just completed a 12-week CBT course (Debbie Featherstone). It all helps!
Is water fasting meaning only water no other food or anything? It’s to hard for me. I feel dizzy. After start my T I feel always very tired and week.
Yes it is and I know it could cause headaches etc so not for everyone. What has helped me is easing into it gradually and gently so that the body gets used to it. I understand and sympathise with you. In my opinion the priority is to be kind to yourself and do relaxing, soothing activities that you enjoy. Fasting may help but I have left it last on my list because it’s not easy …
And plenty of walks with my springer spaniel, how could I forget 😀
I get stressed if I feel hungry and snack a lot! I cannot fast and I have zero motivation to do it......I try to eat healthy as I can and try not to have too much salt or sugar. I should definitely cut my crisp habit down but fasting is not for me.
