Has anyone got any success with a healthcare professional completing above form for PIP purposes?

Unless the claimant in question has been deemed to have a 'terminal illness' then you are unlikely to get one of these forms completed by a health professional - the 'special rules' clause only comes into play if someone has been diagnosed with a terminal illness which cirrhosis alone isn't.

Plenty of forum members are on Personal Independence Payment or Adult Disability Payment as it now is in Scotland. I've never heard of anyone actually getting it through the 'special rules' process UNLESS there is no further treatment option available and they are deemed to be terminal or requiring paliative care.

My hubby had to go through the whole PIP rigmarole and has been on it now for many years. He has cirrhosis - diagnosed in April 2012 in a decompensated state.

Government web page outlines circumstances where it might apply. gov.uk/government/publicati...

Thanks for getting back so quickly. I’ve been reading gov.uk site “providing medical evidence using the SR1 form”. A clinician should complete an SR1 form promptly if they believe their patient “has a progressive disease as a consequence of that disease, it would not be a surprise if their patient were to die within 12 months”. Hopefully my daughter will be put forward for a transplant when she sees her liver nurse specialist at the end of June, she is quite poorly at present. Apparently there is a 26 week waiting list for appeal considerations, taking us to mid October. We sent in appeal end April, 6 weeks already been spent. Initial PIP application sent to DWP November 2022. As we have a doctor’s appointment this Friday will do no harm to ask! What you think?

No harm in asking I guess. Obviously there will also be a waiting period for her to be put forward to transplant assessment too.

I know it took us over two years to get hubbies PIP having had to go through appeal process, tribunal etc.

Best wishes,

Katie

If you’re in England talk to Citizens Advice, they can help with filling in PIP forms and with appeals. It can take a while to get an appointment though, so do it ASAP as there are deadlines for returning the forms

my partner recently had a successful PIP claim receiving the full award for both living and mobility. His transplant co-ordinator didn’t complete a form but wrote a brief supporting letter. What helped his case was we used a charity to support the completion of the form, we sent copies of every discharge letter and blood test result. His claim was awarded without need for even a phone call due to the amount of supporting evidence.

Good luck, it’s not an easy form but stick with it

having the same issue, the specialist ward sister said she’d fill it in. She had to apply for a copy of it which takes a few days to be “processed” 🙄. As above they will only give it if you are on borrowed time.

Cirrhosis alone would probably not qualify. At its worst the prognosis is over 12 months so in their eyes she has time to use the normal application route.

If your daughters disease has progressed to the point where she only has months to live with zero chances of a cure (turned down for transplant) they might consider claiming under the special rules.

HiI was awarded pip last week.. backdated to December 1.

It was the enhanced award but took from December until now to get it.

Your claim should start when you call and they then send you forms.

By the time I completed the forms.. I had a lot of paperwork. I showered them with it.

They set a date for an interview via teams. I waited 40 mins. I called only to be told they were doing it on the papers and had cancelled the appointment!

I know they wrote to my GP and he filled out very detailed questions. I never saw that form but it worked.

I had in the back of my mind something someone on the forum said. I can't remember who but words to the effect.. think of your worst day and base your application on that.

The initial reports are done by a private company I think Capita . There must be a financial incentive I think..?? you can draw your own conclusions thus be careful not to provide information that is not absolutely necessary otherwise you may get knocked back and need to appeal as so many have had to do which I think personally is disgraceful.

Anyway good luck. The advice of registering your claim ASAP is spot on I think.

Best Gus
