Everyday is a new thing it seems. Running a 99-100 Fahrenheit fever (sorry, in the US) and have lower left (spleen area) rib cage pain. Getting more painful each day. GI appointment is Friday, so now I don’t know what I should do. Hit the hospital? Or take it easy till my appointment? So lost and confused...

If the pain becomes intense then get to the hospital. They can do an ultrasound and tell you if the pain is something they can see such as any swelling or enlargment for example. Could be an infection as well. How long have you been sick? Some viral infections like Mono can cause acute enlargment of the spleen.
I know the man in us tells us to wait and stick it out but, I have learned to follow in the footsteps of the ladies now and get to the doctor or hospital when I should. Its one of the many reasons the females out live us brother lol.
Let us know how your doing.

Thanks so much! I was able to speak to the nurse on call and they said since I wasn’t running a high fever and it didn’t hurt to take a deep breath, that I could be seen tomorrow (with the caveat of going to the hospital immediately if it felt any worse at all).
It feels better this morning and I’m gonna still going to get it checked out. I’ve had mono before when I was young, so I’m gonna ask for just a slew of tests to see what sticks. Then I see the GI on Friday. Gonna get to the bottom of this, but having quit alcohol since mid February, this anxiety is still a bit high, but getting a bit better. I’m also mindful of PAWS and that it can last a while, but good gracious, if this is PAWS... that’s gonna be something I’m gonna be happy to get over.
I just want to ensure I’m not one of those lucky people that has been subclinical fibrosis/cirrhosis (ie platelets between 160-212, and ALT ranging from normal to 2 points out of range, but unremarkable US a year ago and unremarkable CT a month ago that paid attention to and described the heart lungs etc but just said upper abdomen unremarkable). In the meantime the symptoms just keep increasing (RUQ pains, right shoulder pain, spleen... very hungry, losing weight, spaciney, confusion, dizziness...).
Just doing everything I can to take care of whatever is left of me! Thanks for letting me unburden some of this. This group is very caring and super helpful.

Mono was the start of my health descent! I was 49 and even said I can assure you I have not been snogging teenage boys lol. A large number of people go on to develop ME/Fibro. I didnt know it can affect the spleen Hazel x
