Stop drinking alcohol. Simple
Hi Vernon1945.
It's understandable that you're scared, I was too when I found out I have autoimmune hepatitis and cirrhosis although I'm not a drinker. There's a lot that they can for you these days and if you can stop your alcohol intake that'd be the first step forward. I get by with medication they prescribed for me, and to say I was very jaundiced at the beginning of January the tablets are doing an amazing job.
Try not to worry, although that's easier said than done. Your hospital consultant will soon put you on the right path. Good luck. Sue.
Vernon, first of all I'm sorry your having to go through all this, I realise what your having to go through. This is, very much your wake up call. It sounds like your body has had enough abuse (sorry, I hate using that word). Being scared is good, it's bringing out the survival instincts in you. But if it's any consolation your now going down the right road to recover. These tests are to see how much damage has been done to your liver. Have you had any other symptoms? Vomiting blood or swelling in your tummy? Having mood swings, or forgetting things? These are all signs associated with Alcohol-related Liver Disease.
Sobriety may feel like an impossible goal at the moment, but given strength and a will not to give up it's possible. You also need help and support. But it sounds like your off to a good start in getting all this sorted. Try and remain positive. Draw a line in the sand, everything that's happened is now in the past. Tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start.
Stay Strong.xx
