I just found out I am pregnant but I ... - British Pregnancy...
I just found out I am pregnant but I am only 15 and I think I want to get rid of it, do I need my mum's consent?
Hi Betty,
The first thing is that if you are pregnant then please don’t worry. There are lots of sources of advice and support for you when you are thinking over your options.
If you are unsure about your pregnancy, perhaps you could talk it over with someone you trust? It might help. That could be friend, a relative or someone at school. Or if you would prefer to talk to someone you don’t know, you could make an appointment at a family planning clinic, or at your local Brook or bpas centre. But whoever you talk to, it is still 100% your decision.
If you decide that you don’t want to continue with your pregnancy, then no you do not need your parents’ consent, although you will be encouraged to involve a parent if you possibly can. Many young women who initially don’t want to involve their parents are surprised by how supportive they ultimately are, even if they are bit shocked and upset at first. Staff will need to talk to you to make sure that you properly understand all the information about the procedure, but no one else needs to know if you don’t want them to.
I hope that gives you the information you need. Whether you decide to continue with the pregnancy or not, it is important to seek advice as soon as possible. If you have any other questions please do let me know.
Best wishes,
Katherine
You do not need permission from anyone if you live in the UK.
The NHS are not allowed to even tell your parents of your health or your decisions.
