I have just been out of action for 8 weeks with Occipital Neuralgia. Has anyone experience of this condition? It is so very painful.

No experience but I’ve heard of it. Sounds dreadful. Are you feeling better now? Hope you’re getting all the help you need. Take care xxx
Thank you for your concern. Had an MRI at the weekend. My doctor rang today and the problem is caused by my discs pressing on nerves and degenerative arthritis. Hopefully medication will help in some way. XX
I can only imagine how painful that must be. I hope that your GP is able to give you some effective medication
Oh so sorry to hear this. My friend had this & she said it was so painful. Do hope medication is working for you now
Sorry, I had never heard of it before but just Googled it. I take it that you have read up on all the things you can do to relieve the pain and tried different things?
My hubby had a slipped rib last December and was in terrible pain as it also pressed on a nerve. He also got Oramorph for it, but this didn't really help him as it wares off quite quick. He went on a slow relieve Tramadol with paracetamol 4 times a day and this was better in his case. Maybe worth a try and ask your GP about it.
Make sure you don't get constipated. Morphine will do that to most people. Maybe your GP already gave you some meds for that in case.
I hope you will find something that helps. x
I don't have occipital neuralgia but do get migraines. Stretching exercises can make a difference. I got my exercises from physios and osteopaths, so I know they're OK for me. You could try the chin tuck described on this page - as it says, stop immediately if it causes you more pain. spine-health.com/wellness/e...
Hi it is a horrible condition. I have neck problems due to severe osteoarthritis. The doctors believe this causes my occipital neuralgia. It comes and goes without me being able to find the trigger. I find a gentle heat at the bottom of the neck helps but mainly I take opiate based medications.
This sounds very painful. I hope you find some relief soon.
I sympathise with you because I have experience of this excruciatingly painful condition. Strong painkillers seem to be the only effective treatment. I have never found out what causes it - my GP shrugs his shoulders and says "just one of those things"! Good luck and stay strong!
Thank you. In my case the discs are pressing on the nerves. This is the first time though that it has effected the Occipital Nerve. Good luck to you too.
I hope your GP can find a suitable combination of medicines and other treatments to ease the pain. This sounds a horrible thing. best wishes for speedy relief.
Hi, I found some pain relief from this natural remedy. It says it is for trigeminal neuralgia, but I contacted customer services and they assured me that reduced occipital neuralgia pains too.
No drugs involved, be sure to put it on the soles of your feet at bedtime. Weird but amazing, it helped me sleep too.
I got it from healthproductsbusiness.com/...
