I sense your dread! Try not to worry my personal experience of hospices is they are second to none providing the best of care. The nursing staff are hand chosen for their gentle kindness and skill. My thoughts are with you during this particularly difficult time of your life. Chrys
Sorry to read this sad post unified. Hospice care is very good. my brother in law when he was 50 a few years ago, was treat with care and kindness in our local hospice. I wish you well, I really do .

Contrary to popular belief, hospice is not a sad place where people are sent to die. Nowadays hospice is more about caring for the complex needs of the individual person, yet continuing to live a fulfilling life at the same time. I have known someone who has been in hospice care for two years now and is still enjoying their every day activities. Take heart and talk with the hospice staff. They will help put you at ease.

from my experience my sister (46) was treated with the upmost respect & care , it seemed a very happy upbeat bright place ...with experienced kind caring staff .

Hi there, I would like to echo all the previous comments. I too have similar to you. I have very severe copd and stage 3 heart failure and although I haven't been a hospice residential care patient, I have been a day care patient at my local hospice on 18 occasions and am due to be again this March, hopefully.
They can do so much more in the way of nursing care for patients with an advanced illness, many things to make life happier and much more tolerable. they also provide a Community Specialist Nurse for home visits and offer support and advice to the patient's family on many things. I find the staff amazing, especially as many are so dedicated and completely voluntary.
I sincerely hope that all goes well for you and that you greatly benefit from the care given. Unlike our often overworked NH S staff, they do have time for you and your needs.

My husband has hospice care , they are all about living the absolute best you can . He can access all he needs in therapies to help ,and attends a day patient day , where they can do crafting and other things , and he goes to chair yoga class which helps them all , many in wheelchairs with oxygen and all in a stage of their illness .
They are the kindest people , and always cheerful and look after everyone brilliantly .
They bring happiness and light .
Hospice care is great when it is available. My husband spent his last few days at our local hospice and no one could have been more caring than the staff not just to him but to me also. I have just bought the Rachel Clarke book about end of life care. It is just such a shame that it is not funded properly and what is available can be a bit of a postcode lottery. We are lucky where I live and I hope that if I need the care in the future it will be available to me.
