Two family members had this vile condition! The pain is unimaginable and the medication doesn't always work, but makes you sluggish all of the time. My aunt ended up having an operation for it and has had no problems since apart from a little electric shock type pain very rarely, which is nothing to her now. I hope you have an understanding doctor who will take the pain seriously. Regards Chrys

Sorry I've no help to offer, but I can wish you well and welcome you to the group. 😐

Some migraineurs like myself use Cefaly to make the trigeminal nerves less touchy, but I'm not sure whether that would just make things worse for TN. Cefaly uses tiny electrical currents to stimulate the nerve so that it gets less trigger happy.

I get this occuring fairly frequently and it is wickedly painful. Fortunately, when it was diagnosed, Tegretol (carbamazepine) was prescribed and it is very effective in controlling the condition in my case and gets rid of it fairly quickly...I can then stop the medication until the next time.

How long do your bouts last? And how long does remission last? Does it vary? On 5 tablets now and can eat. A little pain but not enough to bother with.

Before I was prescribed Tegretol, the bouts were sudden and vicious all day long and virtually had me on my knees, the Tegretol worked within an hour and several tablets over 24 hrs were sufficient to stop it. I haven't had a reacurrance this time for over six months.

Sorry for the late reply, I have'nt had my phone on.

Pleased you are improving and hope it carries on that way.
