What a great photo, to capture a bird in flight like that. I’ve been adopted by a seagull with a broken leg in my little menagerie of unwanted animals. It’s one of the huge great black backed gulls but is frightened by even a sparrow. Some time I must try to get a photo.

Awwww he sounds lovley. What do you have in your menagerie sounds interesting are you are a rescuer for lots of different animals or just birds πŸ’žπŸ’ž

And that's exactly what counts your happiness and getting that feeling from your family of feathers and fur πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’žπŸ’žπŸ’ž

Yes they do....added to my list is the soothing effect of colorful fish in a fish tank...I can stare for hours...better than TV...makes my breathing very quiet and easy....

Sounds amazing. Where do you keep them all???

HungryHufflepuff profile image

I have several fields. My sheep have 2 fields with a house in each, one of which is more like a luxury home, the chickens have several houses, one of which has their nests that they go into at night. The cats make themselves at home wherever it suits them at that moment. One cat who sadly is no longer here didn’t fit in at all with my other 2 cats. He was a very spoiled and pampered beloved pet of a lady who alas passed away. The cat was homeless so long story short he ended up with me. But it really wasn’t working out. Also he’d obviously been an indoor cat and was not liking this outdoor thing, with ground that’s dirty. So I bought him his own car, and he was very happy. He had a kitty litter tray in the front and had beds and blankets throughout. I just made sure to keep a window open on whatever side the wind and rain weren’t coming from. But he was old and his back end gave out 😒The problem with getting old, ill and otherwise rejected animals is I end up with a lot of vet fees, and heartbreak.

Still bless for the care you give. We must care for our four legged friends, they can’t do it for themselves.

Your life sounds wonderful though I’m not sure about the temperatures where you live. But it must be very clean air😊

The space sounds like heaven.... I think I’ll be a sheep in one of your fields πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ . Have you tried crowd funding to cover vets fees? Look at the amounts some people get doing that ! It’s certainly a very worthwhile cause looking after the animals. Well done you. It can’t be easy!

My wife took me to a place in the New Forest that rescues birds of prey and looks after them.

So get this;

They had 2 huge Golden Eagles with claws that could take your hand off or good as, they were that strong.

They had come from someone who had owned them quite legally, I believe, and kept them well and fed and watered from a very early age. Bred for captivity I suppose.

Anyway, the bird sanctuary had to teach this pair of magnificent awesome birds to FLY because they had never had to and did not have the room to, where they were kept.

I had to process that for a while because it seemed so wrong and cruel, which I still think it is, but for the eagles it was like not having a really boring, hard job to do; that is, have to fly around hunting because they had everything provided and were quite happy with that situation thank you very much.

I put my human β€˜wow flying is so awesome and wish I could do that’ attitude on the eagles which are apparently actually as affectionate and caring as a Terminator killing machine and would leave you far behind the second they thought that they were better off somewhere else!

And would happily never walk let alone fly if they didn’t have to.

Thought that was a really fascinating thing to learn! Funny old world

Very interesting story Phil. I think its cruel to cage any anima,. Did you get a photo of them x

Phil40 profile image
Phil40 in reply to Izb1

I agree with you about caging anything, doesn’t sit well with me but again I sort of remember being told that where these eagles had been there was loads of room, the guys running the rescue place were quite adamant that the birds hadn’t been cruelly treated by confinement or maltreatment, it just seemed intrinsically wrong that they were captive anywhere. But that’s people for you.

I did have pictures but don’t know where, if I find any I will put it on. They were enormous birds with very sharp beaks but actually kill with their talons and exerting enormous power in the grip, some amazing lb/square inch figure.

I know they are fascinating birds. I took my grandson to Jungle Park when he lived in Tenerife and watched the bird show, they at least get to fly, magnificent animals x
