Hi

Woke with a sore throat. Feel fine, no SOB and no cough but any suggestions what can I do to nip this in the bud so it doesn't travel to my chest?

Thanks

Sinclair

You could try gargling with TCP, available from pharmacies and most supermarkets.

Make sure you don’t use full strength as a friend did many years ago! 😨😨😨

It's one cap full of TCP to five caps of water. And even diluted to that extent, is still pretty strong.

This is exactly me today. In the early hours I used my antiseptic throat spray (Corvonia). If I'd been away from home I'd have used a few drops of Tea Tree oil in water or TCP to gargle. I'll also start drinking effervesant Vit C 1000mg this morning and twice more today if I can fit the doses in. I put these in a pint of water to also ensure I get plenty of fluids in me.

Good luck from one who's sore throats and colds always lead to an infection unless I bash them with the above in time!

What is TCP? I agree about vit. C I get powdered form as it's just pure and you can adjust dose. I also chug down a few drops of oil of oregano in orange juice along with the vit c. It depends on how long I let things go. Works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't! Winters just a good time for vit. C PERIOD!

Hope this helps!

Grab a netti pot and flush those nasal passages out too.

TCP is a British liquid antiseptic, used for diluting & bathing wounds or gargling.

Hi

Thyme is a good disinfectant. If you find thyme herbal tea, or brew thyme for 10mn and gargle. Or have a cup with honey 3 times a day after meals Salt in water is simpler!!

Hope you feel better soon x

A. Vogel Echinaforce Sore Throat Spray 30ml is available from Holland and Barrett for around £8. A bit pricey but beneficial for taming a sore throat. I can’t guarantee that alone it will prevent chest infections but it’s a useful part of your armoury. Take care.

I had this last week, but took the 1000gm effervescent vit c with zinc, two or three times a day and it went in 3 days. Each dose stopped it, but it came back after a few hours so I ttook more. The zinc helps your body absorb it better than the tabs without the zinc. I find the vit c a great cure all for minor symptoms and since June have avoided about 6 complaints that could have developed to needing antibiotics. Tesco and Aldi sell them among other shops.

Good luck - jo

Hello sinclair61 .

Sorry you aren't feeling so good. Many people eat oranges, lemons etcetera in the belief that they may avoid getting a cold. Vitamin C does boost the immune system but it has never been proven to prevent colds. Vitamin A however, may help with some prevention, carrots, spinach, milk, liver and eggs are good sources.

Having hot foods and liquids can help kill off viruses in your nose and mouth. Hopefully you enjoy spicy food , chilli powder is good. If you feel like you already have the cold , stay away from dairy for a little while. Milk makes the mucus in your nose worse.

Also, if its a really nasty cold it is advisable to change your toothbrush when you start to feel better. Germs can survive between the bristles.

Hoping you feel better very, very soon.

Cas xx 💐

Get some zinc lozenges. While they won't cure a virus they are supposed to be very effective in keeping it from spreading. For the last few years every time it feels like I have a cold starting I start using zinc lozenges and they have really helped me.
