Oi! I don't want to get away with what MJ got away with ok! You'll have to be a bit more clear! Or maybe rephrase that....

in reply to notlocal

He wore a face mask to not inhale germs , and the good luck was as u said u just need the balls to wear it. What did u think I meant ????

I didn't know! To be honest I really wasn't into him or his music, but there were all sorts of unsavoury other things about him I didn't want to be associated with. I may try and moonwalk with it though.. :)

I'd go for wearing a mask anywhere - no matter about the ebola - if it meant you could get out and not worry about other people's bugs. If they aren't concerned about passing their bugs to you, why should you worry about the mask!!!

Hi Pergola, it's just that where I live (Easton in Bristol) I haven't seen a mask in over two years living here. Coming off the back of a 5 month chest infection that didn't respond to any known AB I am now very interested in masks. Especially after going into local chemist other day with customer a sneezin' and a coughin' and the assistant didn't even dry wash his hands after (me hanging by the door trying to avoid :) )

Brilliant how many could you produce a week - I am sure this is a great idea for dragons den!!! Xx

Can you imagine me getting up all those stairs to the top? I'd need 2 - 3 minutes panting before I could make my pitch :)

Heh, I really, really am thinking about a line in colourful 'different' masks (not like the one above). I need a project to get my teeth into this winter :) (apart from having 20% of my lungs removed of course :) )

Sounds like a plan notlocal all different colours to match what we are wearing,Id wear them bliddy germies out there. My sons girlfriend said whilst she was sneezing 'ifeel alright not ill '' which is true but if I catch it that knocks me for a month or more. She understands now having seen me poorly. But most fit people dont get it. :P Janexx

You right Jane. 4 days for them equals 4 maybe 6 weeks for me (5 months my latest). Need to combine ink and breathability plus cool fashion for the masks, mind..suggestions?

disposable ones and reusable ones,You could get someone to endorse them like Ray Winstone as he has with Amanda Redman blowing bubbles for the BLF.Will surf around and see whats out there and materials used etc etc. :) Janexx

No, no Ray Winstone! I want Banksy, far more edgy! Besides Banksy's from here... :)

Of course absolutely.Anyone in mind? :P Janexz

People with colds have to go out you know! or would you make it law to confine them at home?

notlocal profile image
notlocal in reply to

Of course, coughalot but we also have the right/need to protect ourselves. Especially in surgeries, waiting rooms and chemists.

Yes you do but how would you feel if you had a cold or bad cough and you saw someone wearing a mask like that? I hope no one is funny with you like they have been with me on occasion. But I refuse to stay in! x

Well, I suppose my attitude to healthy people with colds is that for them it's a few days of discomfort whereas if I get it, it heads straight to my chest and I'm looking at a lengthy (last one was 5 months!) chest infection with breathing problems and the likelihood that my fev1's going to be lower at the end of it. I don't suggest they stay home either. I haven't worn it out (and probably won't, not with the writing on anyway). I suppose I didn't want people to think that I was paranoid about Ebola, which I'm not. I live in an area with a lot of Africans and wouldn't want to upset anybody.

Well I get chest infections too and I feel poorly for ages as well (but not as long as 5 months thank goodness). I think the reasonable thing to do is try to avoid people with coughs and colds as far as possible. But if you go out in public there is a fair chance you will get one. What is the answer? I guess if you have a car it's easier but I haven't so have to go on the bus which means I also get traffic fumes which make me cough as well. x

I'd definitely wear one on a bus in winter! But I wouldn't on the street/open air, just enclosed spaces. I seem to remember you live in Devon (?) - maybe people would react more to a mask there. Mind you, the only people I've seen with them are Japanese tourists.

It is common practice in Japan and the far east. I think it is sensible... And would definitely wear a Banksy one

DO IT !!!

Considerate people will understand; dolts may be offended but...., SO WHAT !!!

Well this dolt understands but I can't see the point in wearing it. What message is the mask trying to say? Stay away from me with your cold? Difficult when you are in public! Or you shouldn't be out with a cold? Again that makes no sense... If you don't want to run the risk of catching a cold the responsibility is yours to avoid those with colds - not the other way round!

When I am out and coughing it would be very rude to treat me like a leper and for all you know others have lung issues too. I think we should all be supporting each other - shouldn't we?

notlocal profile image
notlocal in reply to

I didn't call you a dolt! Tbh, I don't know if I'm going to wear the printed version outside. It arose partly from my own wish not to get another infection and some conversations we've been having on a new zealand copd FB page about inconsiderateness of others in a work/home situation and the need to educate those others in basic hygiene, wash hands, cover mouth when coughing or sneezing. Some of the stories would make your hair curl. In a public, street situation it's a bit different. I plan to wear a mask (in winter only) in cafes, enclosed places, doctor and hospital waiting rooms etc I referenced Ebola in my pic because if people see you with a mask they may assume it's the reason you're wearing one and I wanted to make clear it wasn't.

I was looking for a way to keep myself free of infection and maybe educate others without wearing something round my neck that said " I have copd, a cold for you is a few days of discomfort, for me it's a lengthy chest infection and breathing difficulties". No one to be treated like a leper. Wearing a mask out is a big thing for me and not to be taken lightly; and you are right, we need to be discussing it.
