What is meant by a Transfer factor on consultants report.

I am trying to make sence of my latest report that the consultant sends to my GP and he does not mention Fev or anything that others on here seem to refer to, instead he mentions ratio and flow volume loop and transfer factor, bi-apical fibrosis, branching bronchus etc.

The only measurement mentioned is this transfer factor which is measured in % is seems.

Does anyone know what % is good and what is bad?

He also has got several things wrong.ie he asked me questions ,which I answerd with a different answer than the one he has told my GP ( I don't think he was listening)should I tell my GP that this is wrong before he adds it to my notes?

I would suggest you ring the helpline - my gut feeling is yes tell your doctor but the helpline maybe able to guide you and help you with the numbers. I have no clue! Take care, good luck TAD xx

Agreed. You need to let your GP know if anything that is recorded is not correct.

Thanks stilltruckin. I have read that link which tells me what it is but does not tell what levels are good and bad. Mayby I'm thick.

"The degree of severity of reduction in the diffusing capacity can be assigned according to the following scheme: less than the lower limit of normal (LLN) but greater than 60% of predicted is mild, between 40 and 60% of predicted is moderate, and less than 40% is severe."
