I have COPD and often find myself 'choking' this happens frequently, not just eating or drinking, but swallowing. Is this a symptom others suffer please?

I don't choke but I do have problems when I eat - I think it is called 'reflux'. When I told my GP I was given some pills to counteract the problem and I have to say that they have helped.
It would be a good idea to call the BLF Helpline - I don't doubt that they will help you.

I watched the video that you posted.
I am so sorry that your daughter has this condition. I don't really know what to say other than I hope that something can be done.
It must be killing you to know that your daughter has this condition. Life is so bloody unfair at times. You must be absolutely devastated.
If wishes could be granted I would wish that your daughter be cured.

I tend to take a day at a time, she is happy with her new hubby and he understands how bad it can be for her.

So sorry to hear your daughter has inherited your UC Is4bell4 I always live in fear one of my kids would inherite mine I had really severe UC for 6 years had to have a ileostomy 27 years ago ages 26, changed my life for the better and have never looked back 6years ago I got lung disease (bronciecatasis and was told there is a link between the two diseases though normally they occur at the same time ) I have had trouble with choking but oddly enough this happens when I sleep and I wake up choking very scary. I am keeping track of what I eat or drink before I go to bed see if theres a connection Best wishes Julie

I too choked at night despite being propped up. When investigating the lungs they found I have a large hiatus hernia as well as UC and some, as yet, unknown lung disease. It might be worth seeing if you have a hiatus hernia - not that they do anything about it but at least you would know what it is. I take omeprazole.

Pete is very like you Is4bell4 and he chokes day and night. It gets him down as he can choke just by swallowing but nobody seems to know why. He seems to have lots of mucous in his throat and this can and does trap food sometimes but one day is different from the next. Pete has often woken up choking in the night and has to sit up and try and calm things down. It is not a nice situation at all. Pete does also have sarcoidosis so unsure if that is what causes this choking or not. Hope things improve for you very soon. xxxxx
Awe thank you Sassy. I could understand if it was due to eating or drinking, but just swallowing!
Thank goodness for my mutley dog, she has me out in the fresh air/meadows everyday, three times a day. I know sometimes when I feel too poorly to walk her . . I still go. She deserves it and I benefit too.

apparently what I have and seeing a speech therapist for some exercises that may help...apparently rather common in COPDers ! never heard of it until a had a choking episode. Now seems postnasal drip contributes and is stuck at back of throat and can't sniff it up/ blow it out/ or swallow it down sometimes. so sip water and take a cough med to line throat.

Fascinating article Juliekkay that makes good sense. Pete has trachea malachia which means that if he coughs really hard i.e. when has a chest infection, his throat collapses a bit and so does he! I will save the article and read it again. Thanks for that. xxxxxx
