Would free advice (from the BLF) about financial planning for the future (eg. pensions, life insurance, early retirement) be useful?
MarkPilling232 VotersThere is very little practical information on ill health retirement especially if under 50 and and services available so definitely yes please. I've gone through the process now but help and advice would have been greatly appreciated. Many services out there will not kick in until you are over 50 or 55 so I totally fell through the net.
I am now past this stage as already retired and receiving my late husband's annuity. Although he didn't have lung disease he did have a terminal illness and had to sort out his bits of pensions from previous employers so that I could benefit. The only option was to go to a financial adviser who had experience of sorting out the best possible annuity for terminally ill patients and, of course, a percentage of his pension pot paid for this service. It would have been very helpful for him (us) if the sort of advice you are considering offering had been available back then.
Welfare rights be good idea if first 5 mins of tory govermeant are out to go by
I Mark, no I wouldn't require it because all mine is settled. However I witness do many in my groups. On Facebook and Breathe Easy asking questions yes ones that I don't have answer's for so yes I refer them to the Help line. So yes a great idea. Geof.
I'm past the point where it would be of any benefit to me now but had I developed copd at a younger age I'm sure I would have appreciated any advice and information available.
Any good advice is worth having!! I think it would be a very good idea.
it would help me if i could get early retirement if only to get a bus pass to help me get into town and visit people , i am not eligible for retirement until 2020, i was declared medically unfit for work in 2012 having only worked part time for many years i have no savings or private pension to fall back on . i live alone struggling to make the most of what the government say i need to live on
Hi Sandy, check local government web site, contact Citizens advice they can help.I have free bus pass and blue badge just waiting for my own BB parking bay.Have you applied for PIP?D.
Hi Sandy. As FarmerD mentioned, have you applied for PIP. Are you not receiving and benefits for health reasons?
Too late to sort out been retired 6 years and got few savings left.
since I live in the u s, I really can't comment. I would like to see that here! I think it could be really helpful for people in the UK.
L have been retired 20 years plus, having been self employed. Our pension pots were quite small but we had funds in bonds on advice from a finance person, we lost a large amount through the bonds which were tied in. Yes it would have been good for me to have independent and free advice. So my vote is yes for future retirees, if that is a word?
To late for me been retired 10 yrs but am sure it woul help a lot of people. Pegx
I have found the financial side of things a very big rigmarole, as my wife is a nursing sister we can't claim a thing (oh forgot £52 per week) no free prescriptions no free anything unless my wife drops below 30 hours at work, that way we will still still be worse off, my prescription cost more than i get per fortnight.
Hi Eskimo,if you pay yearly you save a lot and any additional meds Don,t cost you any more.I pay about £130.00 pa.Monthly direct debit.D.
I think it would be very beneficial to us.
It would be beneficial to me.
If any body has a particular question ask me I might be able to help, until they set it up .Of course it would be a great idea,as long as they don,t try to sell us anything.D.
If any of you are on meds for under active thyroid, you never have to pay any prescriptions again, if you work or not, Sally x
What would be good, Is something like the Parkinson society.
They have part time area reps . Some are ex social workers. Who will visit you in your own home, and advise what benefits you are entitled to, and to help !! if not fill in the necessary forms so that you can obtain them.
great idea i'm all for it, would also like to know when to retire, when I cant walk, when I cant sleep, when I feel I don't want to, when I cant lift boxes etc
Hi The DB,according to Iain Duncan Smith if you can lift an empty box above your head you are fit and able to work.I can,t but I applied for a job at The Empty Box Shop because I reckon I could just kick the box along the floor( stupid old Iain did,nt think of that ) I,m still waiting to hear from The Empty Box Shop. D. 😎
That made me laugh! even though its too near the truth to be funny! A lot of people who voted Mr Cameron etc back in have got a big shock coming. Theyve all got it in for disabled people. Mr Duncan Smith tries to pretend cutting benefits and having sanctions is "to help people back to work". Nothing to do with raising money to cut taxes for the well off. He obviously thinks the public are stupid and when you see what happened at the last election hes right! I wouldnt mind Mr Corbyn winning the Labour contest I dont think hed be any good but he will stir things up a bit eh, robin
Hi, the way I see it with this illness, that if I make it to retirement age, i'm sure I will have no energy to enjoy any retirement, I would like a couple of years before that stage to get round a little
Don't pay for prescriptions in Scotland
Shhhhhh! Don,t tell us that we,ll all move back lol.D. 🚫
Politics might be a pain in the rectum, but alas cuts in funding lead to lack of staff and staff dropping like flies from stress and unpaid hours work, can they complain NO whistleblowers get sacked
How about people throwing there toys out of the pram and respecting other peoples views, vice versa. Help & support on this site is off great need to some people (including me) better to have info than depression
Advice about benefits, form filling etc, might be handy
Yes it would be a help.
I have pulmonary hypertension but nobody seems to know anything about it. Maybe if the BLF could publicize this as well as they do OCPD, Asthma, Pulmonary Fibrosis for which I can find pamphlets this would help. I keep looking for one of your help pamphlets about this condition but the only place I get help is at PHA the Pulmonary Hypertension Association. I feel that BLF is letting me and all the others who suffer from this conditon down. I know it is a rare disease but even so, people should know more about it and be aware of it. Because of this their doesn't seem to be any help out there with regards to financial help in any form.
