hi , I’m looking for some help, I have in principle an agreement with a local pub that I may put an outdoor defib on the wall for anyone in the community to use in case of emergency, the only stumbling block is the owner of the building is asking who will be liable for the maintenance of the defib ?
has anyone came across this before and does anyone have any advice.
Many thank

You are though you can nomiate a guardian of it ,who then maintains it ,checks it etc , if they any local near you , check who runs them see if they will maintain yours
Have a look at Cormed DX com. They have just introduced a single use defib which is the size of a large bar of chocolate. The cost is about £400 I think and that includes a contract to replace it once it has been used.
Brilliant idea and very public spirited of you to do this.
I believe you would be responsible for maintaining it unless someone takes over the task for you. Maintaining a public defib can be quite involved, you would need to register the AED on the national data base so that in the event of it being needed 999 will direct the caller to the nearest AED and give them a code number to access it. If the AED is accessed/used the national database will notify you so that you can retrieve the device, re-set it and change the pads (I believe these need changing every 3 months anyway) once the device is re-set you then have to notify the national database the device is active again. Often, in the confusion of the device being used the device gets forgotten about & isn't put back into its cabinet so you may have to track down where it is, often they get taken to the hospital in the ambulance or are in the back of someone's car. I may have forgotten a few things but you will also have to maintain the housing cabinet too as often they go rusty!
Maybe you could phone the BHF for advice or perhaps ask your local council who the local fundraiser is for your area & who is responsible for maintaining any current devices.
Good luck.
I|t's often the local authority which deals with these things, the maintenance and the cost of the power to maintain it. Positioning these things is crucial, so approach your parish' town council for advice on that-there are charities which help fund them too, so that might be an idea to start with-they aren't cheap!!
When you find out perhaps you could put your findings on here? These devices are so useful that their ongoing maintenance should be more widely known. Thank you.
