plagued with breathlessness--icd fitted 7 years ago--cardio rehab went well 1st time but after being hospitalized in 2020 -very weak with heart condition-on discharge gradually able 2 walk a bit but nowhere near the level i feel i should be able 2do.

Would wegovy--be helpful in my condition--should i run that by cardio nurse 2 see if any adverse effects when taken along with existing meds--i read an express article that said its primarily 4 diabetes sufferers -but it helps those with heart conditions-fatigue+breathlessness also 13%average weight loss as it suppresses appetite.

Could this be answer 2 my prayer as my quality of life is severely hindered by breathlessness?

Hello :-)

Sorry to read you do not feel you have as much improvement as expected it can be a really worrying time but talk with your Doctors , Consultant if you still have one and the Rehab Nurses to and I hope the outcome is positive :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Earlier this year, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended the use of Semaglutide (Wegovy) for adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 35 and one weight-related health condition – such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

This is taken from gov.uk/government/news/new-...

If you meet the criteria you could ask about it, but it's a very limited supply so will likely go to those needing help controlling diabetes first. I hear the side effects are pretty bad so might not be worth the headache.

Have you had a recent cardiac assessment by a Specialist. If you are still getting very breathless it sounds like you might need to get a proper examination to make sure that you are on the right dose of your heart medications or if they need to make some adjustment to your ICD.

It is worth asking about the Semaglutide and if you could eventually try it with your medications after you've had your current health symptoms assessed .

You may even need to get some blood tests or x-rays and have some breathing tests to assess whether you have a respiratory or other health issue causing more breathlessness.

Semaglutide isn't a magic bullet though , and can have some unpleasant side effects .

Depending on the area you are in you may be required to show evidence that you have been trying to use a NHS weight loss plan and activity or Physiotherapy without success before they will consider prescribing this.

They may ask you to try weight loss and physiotherapy or exercise referral before medication if you haven't been doing these already.

The side effects on the drug will also probably require you to change certain eating habits as well and you would be requested to use a healthy eating plan and get activity or physio support alongside it's use.

There’s no Wegovy available atm and when it is it will be for the clinically obese. It’s a limited license for weight loss on the NHS with other possible conditions. You will be able to get it privately but only if you’re clinically obese. But it’s not available and other similar products used privately are also unavailable. I have a pile of private prescriptions waiting to be filled at work for over two months.

Do remember that all the research etc has been done by those allied to Big Pharma and they have the most amazing marketing machine.
