Hello

Yes it is normal to stop Clopidogrel after a year Did you not get a card to say stop Dual Anti Platelet Therapy after one year ?? Mine said stop Clopidogrel after one year but continue 75mg Aspirin for life. If you are concerned contact your GP to question it.

Regards

Hi  Jessica62

I found below a possible reason why Clopidogrel might be stopped. If you are taking two anti-platelet medications at the same time, one is ceased or stopped after 12 months. Aspirin is also considered an anti-platelet. Are you on aspirin as well? This may have been the reason it was stopped if you are as there is a heightened risk of bleeding.

I hope others with experiences of Clopidogrel can help. Maybe a good idea to speak to your GP too.

All the best.

Hi Jessica - after a HA & 3xbypass last year I was prescribed both Clopidogrel and aspirin as a dual anti-platelet therapy - to help avoid/prevent blood clots etc. My instructions on leaving the hospital were that the Clopidogrel would be for one year only but the aspirin would be for life. I think this is mostly standard practice after a cardiac operation. Hope that helps. Carol

You're very welcome, Jessica - I'm just glad I wrote everything down when I was leaving hospital as my GP forgot to remove it from my prescription in the end and I had to remind him! 😂👍

Thats exactly what I was told. My GP didn't pick it up until I emailed the surgery who then confirmed I should stop. So still take aspirin.

I had the same experience Jessica62 - stopped the Clopidogrel one year after the stents were inserted, but still on aspirin for life.

I am the same. Was told to take Clopidorgrel for a year after stent, due to stop in september so will be interested to see if G.P remembers to take it off prescription. Was given a card saying I was on till September when I left hospital. Am on 75mg of aspirin for life.

My GP failed to stop the prescription. I had to contact the practice twice to get it cancelled. Thankfully I order my prescriptions electronically so did not order it after the 12 month period.

Must say, the staff at the practice seemed a bit clueless. 😯

I had OHS and from memory my Clopidogrel was stopped 3-6 months post surgery. It used to make me itch so I was pleased.

I had 4 stents in February. I was told to come off aspirin after 1 month and keep Clopidogrel for a year. I'm also on Apixaban for life.

Yes perfectly normal. It's almost always stopped after 12 months.
