Long QT syndrome

Has anyone been diagnosed with long QT? I was told yesterday I have it and to be careful of certain meds etc. When I got home I googled itšŸ™„ and it seems very serious? I havenā€™t been offered any treatment. I donā€™t have any symptoms, it was picked up on ECG. Thanks!

Dear ChBH192

I was chatting last week with Adamwillis in private chat and he said that he had this, might be worth contacting him.

Stay safe

I would be interested to know how long your QTc is.Also what medication do you take?

Hello! I donā€™t actually know, I have emailed the cardiologists secretary to ask if I can speak with them and ask some questions. I only take 75mg aspirin daily following my open heart surgery in May.

So you seem to have genetically acquired LQTS and not medically acquired.

If your heart rate is not too low then a beta blocker will be prescribed.

If your QTc is too long as perhaps over 500ms then a defibrillator implant could help.

Thanks for your help. If you donā€™t mind me asking, how do you know itā€™s genetic and not medical? I need to find out what my interval is but I havenā€™t been offered any further treatment. Just a telephone consult with my cardiologist in April which was booked months before this. Thanks in advance!

You did not click on "reply" so I never got notified of your response hence my late reply.

Perhaps I should not have said your LQTS seems to not be "medically" induced.

I should have "medication" induced.

If you take no tablets such as Flecainide, Sertraline or any anti anxiety, anti arrhythmia type drugs then it is genetic.

Before you start any long term drugs for arrhythmia, anxiety or depression you should ask for an ECG to check your QTc period. This must then be checked every 6 to 12 months.

Mine went from 390ms to 477ms when I was on Flecainide and then added Sertraline. I was forced to stop the Sertraline and now it's ok at 388ms.

Normal QT must be under 450ms.

Not what you're looking for?
