From what I recall from a long ago pharmacology degree - Bisoprolol is a cardioselective beta blocker that reduces the heart’s workload. It has both negative chronotropic (it slows the heart) and negative inotropic (it reduces the contractile force of the heart) effects - all of which helps to protect your heart along with its effect on lowering BP. If you’ve been taking it for a while then your blood levels will be at “steady state” and not going up and down substantially with each dose so it’s best to stick to your routine unless advised otherwise.

Interested in what you are saying about bisoporol. I was advised by GP to take 1.25 only when I had an episode of AF. Cardiologist recently insisted I take 2.5 every day. I have a leaking mitral valve . BH leaflet on meds says bisoporol should not be taken if valve problems! Also leaflet with bis says not to take is weak pulse or low pulse rate both of which I have! Cardio on holiday so no update yet on result of recent echo and stress test. I had no symptoms before taking bis but now sleeping fitfully and feeling s worse. Could just be anxiety but wondered if others experienced similar effects and does it settle down?

I was on bisoprolol 2.5mg at home ahead of my bypass surgery and complained of poor sleep but was told that it was anxiety and not the low dose I was on. Whist waiting for surgery in Harefield the dose was increased up to 10mg but I slept pretty well suggesting that anxiety really was the underlying problem with my sleep. Post bypass I’m on 1.25mg and sleep normally.

Dose is everything with these drugs which have been around for a long time and your cardio will know what is safe for your situation. I would be inclined to trust your cardiologist who will likely have seen many cases very similar to your own and will have a lot of experience using this drug.
