Aorta size
Please see link to NHS page on the subject, 3.6cm is within the small range of 3 to 4.4cm. Normally requires an annual check t ensure it has not increased and patient given life style recommendations.
Hi. I have the same issue. Mine is 4.1cm - however that’s not the only measure that counts. Doctors explain to me that other factors are also considered (don’t ask me what) and mine is at the upper range of normal so I have been diagnosed with mild aortopathy. In my case, I do have an echocardiogram every 2 years to make sure that it’s not changing. Mine was discovered 6 years ago.
Hi Ally thanks for that having my echo every year as dad and brother had aneurysms. Wondering if this is classed as a aneurysm as I want to book a holiday and sort insurance. This is my first post. I have other heart issues but am finding this site so useful for information. Thanks everyone.
They classified as mild aortopathy in my case. I can ask my cardiologist about the difference. One thing - my blood pressure was slightly high (140/90) and I was put on medication because of the aorta size
As soon as you mention that for travel insurance they are alarmed and push up the price. I was once quoted £2000 for a month in America. I asked how much if I go to Cuba and they said a £1000. I excluded mine from my worldwide insurance as I and the hospital were less concerned as we understood it. I went to OZ, NZ, Zimbabwe, China, the West Indies and the USA
Hi seasider thanks for input. My cardiologist has put upper limits of normal and I don’t want to put aneurysm and pay extra when I May not have got one yet on a travel insurance. Hope you are enjoying sun shine at the seaside😂
Lovely sunshine but a very sharp wind. Will travelling ever be the same again?
If it's upper limit of normal, it's not an aneurysm, that starts at 1.5 x normal diameter. However, these things do, as you know, run in families and some insurers ask about parents' health too. You don't want to omit that you have been looked at, it will come out if you ever needed to claim. But upper limit of normal should be fine and in fact that doesn't even qualify as dilation.
Travel insurance should be ok about it. You obviously need to declare it (if you ever need to claim, for anything, not just this, they WILL get your medical records and refuse to pay if you haven't told them something).
But also make it clear that you are being monitored and the doctors are happy at the moment. That's what I had to do in 2017 for a trip to New Zealand. I had to push, though, the on-line thing rejected me, then the first line sales agent also said no, reading from the simple yes-no sheet. I eventually got through to someone else, I forget who, maybe it was via the on-line brokers. When I got to speak to them, they basically said as I have above, and I got covered with very little uplift.
Rather good job I did ensure I was covered! I dissected on that trip. What fun.
For sizes see Table 3 in academic.oup.com/ehjcimagin... This also explains where is where
Hi Cliff thank you very much for giving me all that information. Alot of heart issues started last March bad timing. All sorted now till next year. So like all of us need a sunny holiday
