Trevor : Anyone had an ablation what's... - British Heart Fou...

Hello Trevor, is this the one that was planned a year ago? You should be fine as they give you both a local anesthesic and a sedative. I imagine someone who has had one will pass by soon...
Local anaesthetic & sedative is fine, & you can always ask for more if you feel you need it, recovery & discharge will be far quicker than any general anaesthetic . I was aware of the actual moment the tissue was burned away but it was not unbearable, more like a touch of heartburn funnily enough! The groin area will be a tad sore for a few days but not unbearable either. My ablation was for SVT, 7 months ago which has completely cured them. Though since then I have had a PM fitted for Bradycardia, that procedure took less time than my ablation by the way.
I had a catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation. I was put under as it took 6 hours.
The surgeon makes a nick in your groin to get at the femoral artery then inserts a wire in the artery up to the heart and freezes the rogue cells that are causing the arrhythmia.
As you are not going under you will be sedated. You won’t feel anything.
Hi
I have had 4 ablations all under general anaesthetic
Unfortunately none of them worked for me but I do know they can and do work
I am just unlucky
You get over them in a short while you feel out of sorts for a bit, my last one I was under for 5 hours but it depends on your condition
good luck
Hi Trevor, I had a Heart Ablation at Broadgreen, Liverpool in 2009, nothing to worry about, I had 4 Electric Faults cauterised. I had an injection in my back, they insert a tube in the groin area, you don't feel it. The room has a lot of screens, there were plenty of Doctor's there, they tell you what is happening all the time, plus a nurse who stays with you. You only feel a little something happening when they cauterise the fault or faults, nothing major, other than that, it is okay, stayed overnight and went home the next morning. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for all of your replies
