Hi, firstly, it’s absolutely normal to be really scared. I think many, many, people on here will tell you that whatever procedure they’re facing, they’re scared.

Are you having a DC (electric shock) Cardioversion? My husband had one after one heart surgery as he went into AF. He was scared and I was really worried, but the hospital staff were really reassuring. He was sedated for the procedure and unaware of what was happening...awake one minute, awake the next, but it had been done in between. Afterwards he said he needn’t have been worried.

There’s lots of information on the BHF website and their helpline nurses are will be able to explain more if you call them.

All the best.

Hi ajb033 , I’ve had three cardioversions and had no discomfort whatsoever with any of them. If it works, even for a short time, it’s a fantastic feeling.

The procedure itself is painless and over in a few minutes, (not that you’ll know that as you’ll be off in dreamland!).

I can honestly say that I’d rather have a cardio version than a visit to the dentist. 😀

You’ll be absolutely fine.
