Advice for mum please

Hi, my name is Marie and I would really appreciate some advice please. My mum is waiting for a double heart bypass and is on angina spray and tablets. This week she has had to use her spray quite often, 3 out of 5 days. I was wondering if anyone would know if it would be safe for mum to increase her tablet, (for angina) that the hospital gave her or could this do harm? Thank you

Hello Marie, sorry to hear of your mothers issues. If she is using the GTN spray that often she should really go back to her GP for another check up possible referal. I wouldnt advise increasig whatever meds she is on without seeing her doctor

Thank you so much for your reply, I will get her an appointment tomorrow. Take care.

Hi Marie - you've got the right idea. The GTN spray is used for 'breakthrough' pain, so any tablets for angina should be controlling the symptoms for the most part. One for the GP! If things continue to get worse with her symptoms they might also want to bring the date of her surgery forwards, so it's worth letting the surgical nurses know too.

Take care, Chris
