Hello Dolly100, what you need to do is see a dietician and mention having copd and they will tell you the safest way to lose weight. You need guidelines when you have a medical condition. Good luck to you and please let me know how you get on ✋️😊

Hello Hidden .

About five years ago I decided to get in shape. I lost twenty two pounds. And I can assure you diet pills didn't come into the equation. I didn't really "diet" either. I just cut down (not cut out) on the food that piles on the calories like pasta, bread and pastries , cut out sweets and substituted that with more vegetable and fruit. I used the stairs instead of the escalator and walked at every opportunity.

Watching what I was drinking also helped, no alcohol or fizzy sweet drinks. Less milk in my tea. You wouldn't believe it, but these small changes make so much difference. You can also find free apps to help you like My Fitness Pal.

Please know that it takes time to see the weight loss and remember that if you have an off day it's okay. Just start again the next day. Be kind to yourself. It is a process and will happen in good time.

Sending best wishes.

Hi I have downloaded My Fitness Pal app which is very interesting. I was wondering if you upgraded to Premium? I have looked all round the app but cannot find how much the subscription is. Have you any idea? Thanks Barbs xx

Hello Barbs. I didn't upload to premium. I thought it wasn't really necessary. I am sorry I don't know how much it costs. How about trying to use the regular version for a few months first? xx 🌹

Hi thanks for replying I was just interested. I seem to have developed a bit of a “tummy” over the last few years. My arms legs and chest are quite skinny. I am only about half a stone heavier than I always have been. I’m not sure if it’s the steroids that account for the tummy. I also suffer with IBS and my doctor has put me on a low FODMAP diet which excludes many vegetables and fruits so it’s all very confusing. I’m not overly worries but I have downloaded the app and will see if it will help. Thanks again Barbs x

Hello Barbs. "Tummy" and " skinny limbs" are classic long term steroid use traits. 😐 Does your hospital have a nutritionist? If you have IBS, then you will have special dietary needs as you have said. I think a nutritionist would be a great help in this situation.

Please let us know how you get on. xx 🙋🐕

I went with slimming world lost 3half stone it was fairly easy doesn’t work for everyone but worth a go, lots of support in my group too. I’ve also been told a GP can refer you and you get joining fee and so many weeks free but not sure if this is true or how it works but worth asking.

#1 hydration lots of water( it helps wash away fat), #2 eat for fuel not flavor, don’t eat stuff w/brightly colored wrappers, don’t eat it if you can’t pronounce it. Greens are your best friend! I don’t know what underlying health issues you have so you probly gotta check w/the doc. I tell most people get your exercise having fun cuz if it ain’t fun nobody’s gonna be consistent. If you like to dance pump up your jams and go man go. If you like the gym scene get w/a personal trainer and they’ll help you set up a program for yourself. Basically you have to make a choice to change your life NOT GO ON A DIET! Make changes that are realistic and doable for YOU. You’de be amazed at the workout you can get at a park w/just a bench, if you can do the stairs do the stairs. Get lean proteins, skip sugar as often as possible. If you think your hungry or you just wanna snack on junk have an apple first. If you don’t want the apple then you’re not actually hungry it’s your mind playing tricks. Don’t drink your calories it’s just a waste, and diet soda isn’t good for you either. Sorry I think I’m rambling but I’m hoping for you to succeed. Feel free to ask me more on the subject anytime YOU CAN DO IT

Hi Dolly- you may need expert advice however I usually cut back on carbs ( pasta, bread, choc .....) and I stay clear of fizzy drinks. I drink lots of water and herbal teas. If you take sugar in your drinks maybe reduce it by half. Do extra easy walking even if its around the house. Maybe reduce your meal size or have smaller portions more often. Hope this helps.

It's the Steroids, I've gone from 50 kilos all my life to 67 kilos these past 18 months. I do portion Control and Exercise as I type this I'm ready to go to the Gym. I have had 4 sessions of Rehab, waiting to hopefully have my 5th soon and I go to Breathe Easy Exercise classes every week....It Was explained that our lungs have increased and the Air we take in has to go somewhere so our Diaphram expands. I'm still 67 kilos and my Transplant Doctor at QE Birmingham, told me as long as I remain fit enough for a Transplant then not to Stress out about my Weight !!! Being a woman ,, hard not too...I sometimes think my Oxygen is blowing me up., Ha Ha ....Just do your best and remain Positive Dolly 100. XXX Carolina .

BTW, I’ve been thinking about your struggle and was wondering who”told”you that you need to lose weight? I mean is it the obvious like you’re 5’and weigh 300lbs? Because not everybody in a white coat is expert in exercise and nutrition( they look at charts and google just like us). I’m only asking because sometimes if a doctor says something about weight they should counsel you on how to fix it. Stressing on it can release bad hormones like Cortisol that can make us fatter w/out even eating and believe it or not missing meals can also do the same. Sure it’s gonna be challenging trying to release fat-it’s supposed to be but miserable no it shouldn’t. Meditating on you, hope YOUR personal goals are coming along it does take time be good to yourself

I do need to lose some for my own good as well I have a hiatis hernia which does not help. I am going to see the doctor next week and see if they can help. Thank you though X
