We'd like to start a choir but no choirmasters are available. Pity really as several members of our Breathe Easy Group are quite keen. Lizzy x

Why don't you just get together for a sing-song? I use that term as it's less intimidating than thinking about starting a choir without a leader. You can get lots of song lyrics from the internet. However 'musical' it sounds, you would all be getting the lung benefit of singing and of being sociable together.

Thanks 02Trees - that sounds like a good idea - lateral thinking I think it's called or thinking outside the box - we were looking for a choirmaster and someone to lead the group but of course that's not really necessary - thanks.

PM me if you would like info about how I run my group. We're not a choir, just a group of people who use singing as exercise. Which area of the country are you?

Hi Ergendl, we are in the Bury-St.-Edmunds area. I would love to hear how you run your group. From other replies I've received I now realise that a choirmaster is not really necessary just someone confident enough to start the singing. Lizzy x

We start with a few simple stretches and warm up singing exercises, including sirens and ahas. We sing 3 formal singing exercises from a CD with karaoke songs between. Then we sing the "toughie", the hardest song we'll sing that day, about half way through the session, followed by a 10 minute tea break. The rest of the session we sing karaoke songs. Because it is a singing for lung health session there is no need for a PRS licence - singing the songs with backing is classed as treatment. I download karaoke tracks from YouTube and screen them using a projector connected to my laptop or Ipad. I've also prepared loose leaved booklets of the words for people who find looking at screens difficult, and these are mainly used when the electronic equipment doesn't want to work that day.

Thanks so much Ergendl for that info. it's really useful, I will pass it on to our Committee members to see what they think. I'll let you know how we go on. Thanks again, Lizzy x

We sing for fun, we have a lady that plays the piano for us but really you could do without that. Just pick songs folk know, we have favourites that work well e.g. Let's go fly a kite, all Abba songs, Cyndi Lauper time after time, let me know if I can help further x

Hi 8405l0i, Thanks for the input, I now realise that we were trying too hard and a choirmaster isn't necessary just someone with confidence to start the singing and perhaps have a list of songs handy. Thanks again. Lizzy x

That's brilliant. Unfortunately BLF have not considered that many of their members don't use social media, would not know how to do this procedure if they did or simply do not want our ugly old mug (me) out there for the world to see.

It is a pity because as everybody has probably guessed, I am very vocal and willing to do whatever I can to raise our profile.

Also, I have seen nothing on TV and heard nothing on the radio about this campaign. Has anyone else?

What campaign? Have I missed something?

Check out the Pinned Posts.

Oh you mean the BLF's Smart phone #battleforbreath campaign? I had read this but completely forgot about it. Thanks.
