Hi Sinclair,
I suffer brittle Asthma rather than COPD, I am also a scout leader 30+ years, so I have been camping quite a bit; as with most lung conditions open fires can be harmful.
I ended up 8 days in hospital after sitting around a very large open fire for a few hours in the Cheyenne hotel in Disney Paris.
I have not suffered too badly just around the usual camp fire cooking dinner, or while toasting marshmallows. I try not to stay around too long and leave it to the boys etc to look after the fires once I've got them going.
Yes, I have. Dxd moderate in 2000 (millenial gift!), I did a cycle ride round the coast in 2009 from Hastings to the Isle of Wight, carried a small pop up festival tent on the back and camped at about 6 or 7 campsites along the way. It was fab, so if you want to, then do it. Just not too late in the year - it gets a bit cold overnight in September onwards.
I would never go near a camp fire though, really unsafe for us.
Definitely no campfires for me!
Thanks for the support, feel far more comfortable about going now!
Sinclair
