It is no bad thing to be checked every 3 months and is normal I believe. It will be good for your consultant to see how well you are doing so be glad they are keeping a close eye on you. Hope you do get to see improvements and wishing you all the very best. Let us know how you get on. Take care. xxxx

It sounds like you've only recently been diagnosed lorraine. It's good you are seeing a consultant again, some people in different localities don't get that and just see a respiratory nurse (you don't say what your diagnosis is but this is often the case for those with COPD).

It is normal to have your weight and height checked each time you go - these affect what the predicted test results would be for someone in good health, so yours can be compared to that as a measure of the extent of your condition.

Hope the appointment goes well. Take care :)

Good luck with the appointment TAD xx

sorry severe copd alpha 1, and just 38kg, breathing nearly normal now thanks to symbicort. but if they don't test my fev1 how will they know if there is a lung improvement, or can the lungs never mend a little bit at all if no smoking involved.. Thanks for replies, will let u know how I get on, if I get there in the ice today.

I dont know the severity of my COPD but i am seen every 12mths usually after a breath test. Had one last week and will see consultant next week. I told the person who did the test that dont think i did as well as the last time i did one. I was told by the consultant that i had smoked to long for my lungs to repair and that things will get worse as i get older . I am on Symbisort and triotrpium (Spiriva). .

Hope you get better prognosies than me .

Thanks Chris, have improved from 40% to 80% which means back to normal, very lucky, also he said should not get worse as long as I never smoke or go near people that do and keep very active. So great incentive to live life to full and improve fitness even more, even at home there a lot of hard exercises that can be done, Off for a glass of wine, and back in just 8 month for checkup. . You should not have to go back twice for treatment, all over in about 10mins for me!! Hope this encourages others to keep away from smokers and get active! Good luck chris x

How long did it take for you to improve from 40 to 80% ?

about 4 months, still pushing for better, mixture of exercise and symbicort, no longer need salamol easi breathe, RT on hold til better weather, but that was a great help, and also for my arthritis. Seems holiday insurance much cheaper if you only need 1 0r 2 inhalers. Last year on hol was more or less stuck in apartment and grounds, struggled to get to transfer bus, now will be able to go out, manage steps and hills. Feel lucky.

been discharged and put in hands of my GP. He said my breathing test have been stable for the last three times and he is very pleased. I have mild Emphasema and if i need to see him then GP can refer me back. I have more things going on and COPD is the least as things stand .

Guess changes for the better are unstable, just going the right way, and docs interested in why patients are getting better, and why, just good nhs in Scotland, no lung infections, have never had an exacerbation, whatever that is, just lots of exercise and keep away from smokers, and away from bums in mobility scooters. copd well below mild, was severe, normal lung function!! off for a long swim tomor hope your lungs are normal now too.

Hope you are all doing well speak again .
